The results of the Russian part of the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students' Survey (GUESSS 2021) have been published. It found that Russian students show interest in entrepreneurship more often and think about starting their own business five years after graduation. Olga Makarova is a lecturer at the School of Economics and Management, HSE University-St Petersburg. In the 90s, she was one of the lucky people who were good at Economics and foreign languages. Thanks to that, for a long time, she was working as a financial executive for such large companies as AT&T, Gillette CIS, Tele2, Pratt & Whitney. Lecturers from HSE University-St Petersburg and the University of Oregon (US) have designed a course aimed at developing creativity in business activities. Galina Shirokova, Professor at the Department of Management, talks about the course and shares her plans to develop imagination and creative thinking within the St Petersburg School of Economics and Management.
The journal Creativity and Innovation Management has published an article on how collaborations between art institutions, artists and commercial brands influence the consumer experience. HSE Orientation Week came to an end. It was organised by the Career Centre and the Alumni Community. Within a week, there were 12 meetings at HSE University-St Petersburg in which 40 alumni of the campus and 350 first-years took part. This is what Dr Manoj Sharma believes. At the beginning of this academic year, he became Vice President of HSE University-St Petersburg and has started to supervise the international activities of the campus, from the academic mobility programmes to partnerships with world universities. We spoke to him about language barriers, key tasks, and Russian peculiarities.
In 2022, HSE University-St Petersburg opened three new Bachelor's programmes: 'Media Communications', 'International Bachelor in Business and Economics', 'Digital Platforms and Logistics'. There is one new Master's programme as well: 'Design'. It has been a month since the studies started, so we decided to share the students' impressions of the programmes and tell about the peculiarities of the education at HSE University one more time.
Ekaterina Khozyainova, Aleksandra Zaplatina and Yuliya Shumilova, the second-year master's students of HSE University-St Petersburg, undertook a summer internship at the Moscow office of the Jewellery House Cartier. In the framework of the internship, they prepared and presented to the programme partners a context map which will be used to shape a strategic plan for developing and promoting the company in the luxury industry market in Russia.
This year, HSE University-St Petersburg's traditional HSE SPB Day event returned in an offline format. It was held on September 11 in the Sevkabel Port creative space. Students, lecturers, the administration and partners of the campus met by the Gulf of Finland to celebrate the brightest holiday of the autumn, which symbolised the beginning of the academic year and an initiation ceremony for first-year students.
