A research group of students from the HSE campus in St. Petersburg: Andrey Shirshov and Ekaterina Kukovenko (BP International Business, 4 d year), led by Associate Professor of the Department of Finance, Ph.D. Elizaveta Igorevna Markovskaya studied how the adaptation strategies of Russian small and medium-sized businesses, applied in response to sanctions from the United States and the European Union after the start of the special military operation, influenced the performance of firms in the short-term period.

Last year marked the inception of an ambitious project led by a group of nine students, focused on elevating the user experience for applicants to the "Data Analytics for Business and Economics" program through the implementation of a comprehensive FAQ chatbot (@datahsebot). In the current academic year, a dedicated team of three students (Ivan Vitkovskiy, Evgenii Galushkin, Alexander Epaneshnikov) under the guidance of Professor Natalia Volkova, has undertaken the responsibility of not only advancing but completely overhauling and refining the existing chatbot.
Galina Shirokova, Professor at the Department of Management at HSE University-St Petersburg, has worked alongside international researchers to identify the role of social circles and cultural values in the success of young businesswomen. They found that support within a group increases the chances of women engaging in entrepreneurship.
For more than six months, HSE University-St Petersburg students have been studying the attitude of young people aged from 18 to 24 toward luxury brands. Guided by the lecturers of the Master's programme 'Arts and Culture Management', eight Master's students and three Bachelor's students conducted three large stages of research on the young audience: in-depth interview, survey and experiment. The research resulted in the portrait of the potential luxury brands consumer among the youth. Read more about the research results.
The results of the Russian part of the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students' Survey (GUESSS 2021) have been published. It found that Russian students show interest in entrepreneurship more often and think about starting their own business five years after graduation. Galina Shirokova, Professor at the School of Economics and Management, Director of the Centre for Strategic Entrepreneurship, told us about other trends in the sphere of entrepreneurship.
In terms of digitalisation, the rapid development of virtual museums is a major phenomenon. However, while some issues in this field are clear on paper, the reality is less straightforward.
