St.Petersburg School of Economics and Management

School of Economics and Management (SEM):

  • Fundamental education for business and science

the peculiarity of SEM educational programs is the combination of mathematical, analytical, economic and managerial training. The share of Hard disciplines is at least 40% of the curriculum, which allows our graduates to have a comparative advantage both for working in industry and building an academic career.

  • Integration of business into the educational process

the relevance of education is achieved through active cooperation of programs with market-leading partners. Each educational program has an academic council, which helps to determine the content of educational programs, as well as takes part in the reading of practical courses.

  • World-class science at the frontier with training courses

on the basis of SEM there are 5 scientific centers and laboratories, which hold leading positions in terms of publication level in Russia. Most of the scientific staff are current faculty members and reflect the latest research in the training courses.

  • Different competencies within one school

the diversity of educational programs together with educational tracks, elective and minor disciplines allow for a high variability of competencies among students. The variability of the program portfolio allows to define professional development based on students' desires and aptitudes, as well as to find successful combinations for practical team projects.

News

We extend our sincere thanks to VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) and the Faculty of Finance and Banking for the invitation and warm reception. It was an honor for the Department of Finance, HSE University – St Petersburg, to deliver an open lecture to your students and colleagues. We deeply value this partnership and look forward to further strengthening our collaboration in teaching and research.

Boris Lodiagin and Olga Alekseeva delivered an open lecture for students and faculty of UEB’s Faculty of Finance and Banking titled “Capital Raising for Businesses in Russia: Lessons for Vietnam.” The session was highly practice-oriented: the speakers walked through real cases from Russian companies and demonstrated how to choose an optimal capital structure for different growth objectives.

Olga Alekseeva, a lecturer and graduate student at the HSE Department of Finance in Saint Petersburg, spoke at the 2025 Massey Sustainable Finance Conference (MSFC2025), which took place on October 31 — November 1, 2025 in Nanjing (China). The conference was organized by Massey University (New Zealand) in collaboration with Nanjing University of Finance & Economics (China) and brought together leading researchers of sustainable finance, regulators and practitioners.

With warm thanks to our Brazilian partners at São Paulo State University (UNESP): Prof. Dr. Cleginaldo Pereira de Carvalho, his coordination team, and the UNESP students for their openness, discipline, and high standards throughout the project.

Two months moved in a steady rhythm: short weekly sprints, evening calls across three–four time zones, shared folders for working documents, and clear roadmaps with check-points. Teams aligned data into a common format, agreed on terminology, and recorded decisions — step by step building a single picture everyone could work from.
