CIBA 2024: Meeting of Art and Business at the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre

HSE University—Saint Petersburg

CIBA: Creative industries. Business. Art is an annual event, devoted to up-to-date topics in the field of creative business. As a tradition, the event becomes a platform for exchanging experiences and networking between cultural and art figures, entrepreneurs and students.

This year, the main topic of the conference will be immersion in the psychology of creativity, research of creative blocks and ways out of them. The programme consists of three parts. The first one is an immersive lecture on the topic of creativity 'Game. Fantasy. Creativity' by Victor Mazin, a practising psychoanalyst and founder of Freud's Dream Museum.

Then, the guests are to attend a series of workshops on creativity development and a workshop by the representatives of Upsala Circus who will share the secrets of communication and team building. Upsala Circus is more than just a modern circus which unites various types of contemporary art: from juggling to parkour. It is also a charitable project which trains teenagers from disadvantaged families and people with special needs.

The final of the evening will be a panel discussion where creators will discuss lifehacks on overcoming creative crises based on their business cases.

Elena Zelenskaya, Academic Supervisor of the Master's programme 'Arts and Culture Management'

Choosing a topic for the event and developing a conception are probably the most creative stages of working on a project. It is always students' initiative: they sensitively feel the relevant inquiries of young audience related to creative business and art, and their stretch of imagination is limitless. Our task as project curators is to help students cut off the unnecessary, focus on a comprehensive idea and pack it. Of course, we develop the concept together with our partners—curators of the New Stage. We try to supplement and enrich already incredibly diverse programmes, which are held on the New Stage, with our event. The topic of CIBA 2024 covering psychological and other blocks, which many creators have to face at different stages, is extremely up-to-date and in sync with such trends of modern society as mental health, finding ways for self-expression and development of creative thinking.

Natali Bredikhina, Head of Copywriting SETTERS

The topic of creative block is always relevant but when your whole work is related to creativity, stakes are rising as it is a question of professional efficiency. So it is interesting to exchange experiences with other participants: to discuss how to overcome such problems on your own and help your team.

Among the CIBA 2024 speakers are:

Victor Mazin, candidate of philosophy, practising psychoanalyst and founder of Freud's Dream Museum;
Natali Bredikhina, head of Copywriting SETTERS;
Elizaveta Pavlycheva, head of the exhibition department of the central exhibition hall 'Manezh';
Eduard Fedorov, project producer of 'Taste Project by italy&co.', creative director of the agency 'park.ideas' and other industry experts.

The conference is organised by students and professors of the Master's programme 'Arts and Culture Management' in cooperation with the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre. The Master's students develop their skills of event management in practice: learn to design a concept of the event and defend the projects before the customer, communicate with potential speakers, work on attracting sponsors, and promote events in various channels.

Svetlana Supranovich, graduate of the Master's programme 'Arts and Culture Management', employee of the Development Office of the State Hermitage Museum

Did I know that a student project I created from scratch on the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre would live, develop and win the hearts of business, art and creative industry representatives? Of course! The project has been held for four years already, and I feel a powerful affection for it. The team changes, new ideas, formats, speakers and partners appear. CIBA is a community, opportunities and future. All these things cause only pride and dreams to reach new heights!

In 2023, CIBA welcomed 220 guests, and the online broadcast of the conference reached 230 thousand views on VK. Over the years of the conference’s existence, the organisers covered various burning questions: from the role of aesthetic intelligence in business to the introduction of art to the corporate environment. In different years, speakers of the conference were brilliant representatives of creative industries: Vokzal 1853, Marina Gisich Gallery, Planetarium 1, the Kuryokhin Centre, the charitable fund 'Anton is Right Here', 'Sevkabel Port' and many others.

Those interested in participating in CIBA 2024 must register in advance.
