A delegation headed by Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of HSE University-St Petersburg, has visited the leading universities of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the working visit, agreements were reached on broad educational and scientific international cooperation in a number of areas. The first step towards formalising the partnership was cooperation within a consortium and the Centre for Russian Education, which was launched on April 28 at Samarkand State University. The next face-to-face meeting between the parties will take place in June during HSE Partner Week in Moscow.

It is a common practice for HSE – St. Petersburg students to combine studies and work in their senior year. However, often finding a balance between these two activities can be pretty challenging. Maxim Borisik, a third-year student of the educational programme 'Logistics and Supply Chain Management', not only gets good grades but also works for almost nine months at an American IT company. The editorial board asked Maxim how he manages to remain successful in both areas.

Next weekend, February 19 and 20, HSE – St. Petersburg will host an annual event for those who plan to enrol in the campus master's programmes – the Winter School. Participants will be able to get acquainted with educational opportunities and attend open lectures by famous speakers – Pavel Barakaev, Sergey Mardanov, Vladimir Knyaginin, and others. Pursuing a career as an arts manager requires a degree in fine arts or other related sphere. Here at HSE – St. Petersburg, we have a unique Master's programme in Arts and Culture Management which was specially designed to prepare students for work in the creative arts industry. During the programme students learn and hone competencies of an art manager, get an Italian master's degree, take a chance to work on real-life projects with iconic art institutions, get involved in a Research and Study group or project laboratories organised jointly with a world-famous luxury jewellery house – the Maison Cartier. In this interview, the academic director of the programme, Yulia Trabskaya, told us about the main features of the programme, its partnership with well-known art institutions, foreign campaigns, current projects, as well as revealed how to study in Italy for a year and shared the latest news for the 2022 intake.

It is no secret that when preparing for admission to a master's degree programme graduates should take advantage of every possible opportunity to stand out among others. One way to do so is by taking part in the Winter School, which is organised every year by HSE – St. Petersburg. The event does not only help graduates to decide on the direction of future postgraduate study, but also adds extra points to their portfolios. In this article, the Winter School last year's participants told our editorial board how participation in the event helped them enter master’s degree programmes.

During her studies in the Sociology and Social Informatics programme, a fourth-year student Dina Vasina got interested in disciplines related to data analysis and mathematics. In November, Dina completed her internship at Yandex within the Yandex.Poisk project where she got a chance to try her hand at product management. In this interview, the student shared with us her thoughts on studying sociology, future career plans and impressions on the internship.

Students of the HSE – St. Petersburg School of Design took part in St. Petersburg Young Design – a contest for young designers and artists. Alexandra Arsentieva clinched first place in the ‘Community’ special project, Ksenia Gernik won second place in the ‘Recycle Sea’ nomination, and another unique project by HSE students was a finalist in the ‘Saint-Petersburg Merchandise’ nomination. The participants also got a chance to learn new things at a unique poster workshop curated for the competition by Mitya Kharshak, Head of the School of Design.

From December 1 to 17, Dr Margarita Kuleva, head of the Department of Design and Contemporary Art at the Higher School of Economics – St Petersburg will give a series of performative lectures dedicated to changing relations between space, body, and culture in the context of new travel. The project is structured around auto-ethnographic experiences and a historical investigation of 19th-20th century Russian culture in motion. The lectures will  be held in the English Channel Tunnel, an aircraft hangar, and Pushkin House in London, with access to live streaming.
