'Knowing How to Analyse Data Is Not Enough—We Have to Understand Why We Need It'
One of the main goals of HSE University-St Petersburg is to create an international environment on the campus. As a part of this work, the university creates more and more programmes that provide an opportunity to study fully in English. Among them is the master's programme 'Data Analytics for Politics and Society'. Over the several years of its existence, the programme has already shown great results, and lots of its graduates have become successful both in business and academia. We talked to Aleksei Sorbale, Academic Supervisor of the programme, about changing teaching language, students' projects, and competitive selection for the programme.

On November 4, the International Science Fiction Symposium 'Inventing the Future' started in Moscow at the Russia National Centre. Guests and experts discussed what humanity will be like in several decades in the rapidly changing global space. Professors from HSE University-St Petersburg were guest speakers at the symposium.
HSE University-St Petersburg Alumna Wins Prize in Korean Essay Competition
The King Sejong Institute has announced the results of its world competition of Korean-language essays. More than 200 participants competed in the final stage. Among the prize-winners was Elizaveta Grinevich, a 2023 alumna of HSE University-St Petersburg's Department of Korean Studies.

Md Naoshad Jaman Chowdhury, 31, from Dhaka, Bangladesh, obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Finance and an MBA (International Business) from Dhaka University and graduated from the Master’s Programme in Management and Analytics for Business of HSE University in St Petersburg. Now he works as an HR Analyst at Brain Station 23 PLC, a prominent software company in Bangladesh. HSE University Announces Call for Proposals to Attend Anniversary Yasin Conference
HSE University invites submissions of proposals with academic reports for participation in the 25th Yasin (April) International Academic Conference (YIAC). The conference programme, centred on five research themes addressing issues of economic and social development, will retain its interdisciplinary focus and welcome participation from leading scientists in Russia and around the globe. Master's Student of HSE University-St Petersburg Presents His Project at Conference on Natural Language in Japan
Alexander Migal, 2nd-year student of the Master's programme 'Language Technology in Business and Education', spoke at the conference 'International Natural Language Generation Conference' (INLG) on natural language which took place in Japan. At the event, he presented the results of the team project—a competition in generating fanfics about the Harry Potter universe.

More than 80 people attended the event, including students and alumni of St Petersburg universities as well as Raja Qadeer Ahmed, a representative of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Youth in the Age of Global Challenges: How International Conference in Honour of the Fifteenth Anniversary of the Centre for Youth Studies Went
