Marica Sharashenidze is a young researcher from the USA. She was an associate at HSE Laboratory of Sociology in Education and Science in 2016/2017 academic year. In the spring of 2016, she graduated from Rice University in Houston (Texas) with a bachelor's degree. While still a student of the last year, she wrote to professor Alexandrov, Director of Laboratory of Sociology in Education and Science, that she would like to come and do her research project in the Laboratory. From September 2016 to July 2017 Marika lived in St. Petersburg and studied migrant children in St. Petersburg schools. We talked to Marika about her research and how she spent this year in Russia.

On October 11, Professor Dominic Lieven of the University of Cambridge, where he serves as Senior Research Fellow, Trinity College, gave a public lecture at HSE St Petersburg entitled ‘Reflections on empire, Russia and historical comparison’. The event was organized by the Center for Historical Research.
The Second World Congress of Comparative Economics «1917 –2017: Revolution and Evolution in Economic Development» took place at the Higher School of Economics between 15 and 17 June 2017. After the successful First World Congress held in Rome in June 2015, the HSE campus in St Petersburg had the honour of hosting the second gathering of leading comparative economists from all over the globe. In the space of three days, over 400 participants from 55 countries took part in 96 parallel sessions covering a broad spectrum of topics related to the study of economic systems and how they respond to crisis, economic transition and structural change brought by globalization and technology.
The article “Politics of Open Data in Russia: Regional and Municipal Perspectives”, co-authored by our colleague from the Department of Political Science Yury Kabanov, was published in the « E-Democracy for Smart Cities» chapter of the Springer Journal this May.
