St Petersburg hosted the traditional philological conference 'October Readings—2024,' which addressed issues of inequality. It gathered more than 100 students and professors from universities across Russia and the CIS countries.

In October, the faculty and staff of HSE University-St Petersburg held the HSE International Olympiad and Mathematical Olympiad by HSE University at three schools in Hanoi. The tasks on social sciences were designed by professors of HSE University-St Petersburg. During the trip, the delegation also visited higher education institutions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including VNU University of Economics and Business (VNU-UEB), a partner of HSE University-St Petersburg. There, professors delivered a series of open lectures for students.

In early September 2024, Anastasia Usyk, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Programme in Asian and African Studies at HSE University in St Petersburg, participated in the final round of the ‘Chinese Bridge’ International Language Competition in Beijing, where she won the first prize in online voting and received the Audience Award and the Award for Most Outstanding Performance. On September 23, the Second Expedition to the Himalayas to Start
Pretty soon, HSE University-St Petersburg will go on the second expedition to the Himalayas organised together with the University of Delhi. This time, researchers will visit the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh which is known for more severe weather conditions at this time of the year. Together with colleagues from the Indian university, they will continue to study how the local communities adapt to ecological and climatic changes, focusing on the sociological aspect of the research.

At the Competition 'WOWMOSCOW' Director from Indonesia Makes Film about 'Soul of Moscow'
The International Competition of Short Videos about Cities 'WOWMOSCOW' organised by the Moscow City Tourism Committee and HSE Art and Design School, announced the results. On August 24 in the framework of the festival and forum 'Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030', the small amphitheatre of the park 'Zaryadye' featured the premiere of the film 'Soul of Moscow' by Takha Audyarahma from Indonesia. The idea of this film was named the best in the final of the competition.

Annually, HSE University provides students of Asian and African Studies with opportunities to participate in mobility programmes in the countries of studied languages. Long-term academic mobility helps not only upgrade language proficiency but also dive into a completely different culture and understand it from the inside. Tatiana Shlychkova, student of the Department of Chinese, Southeast and South Asian Research, spent her fourth year of studies in Shanghai, having passed the selection to one of the most high-ranking universities in China—the Fudan University. The scholarship covered tuition and accommodation. In addition, Tatiana received a monthly allowance for personal expenses.
