Delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg Visits Schools and Higher Education Institutions in Vietnam
In October, the faculty and staff of HSE University-St Petersburg held the HSE International Olympiad and Mathematical Olympiad by HSE University at three schools in Hanoi. The tasks on social sciences were designed by professors of HSE University-St Petersburg. During the trip, the delegation also visited higher education institutions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including VNU University of Economics and Business (VNU-UEB), a partner of HSE University-St Petersburg. There, professors delivered a series of open lectures for students.
'International olympiads are a truly efficient way to find talented students who can become a part of the HSE community in the future. We're happy that the Olympiad in Vietnam was successful and attracted so many participants. Four hundred and eighty-five people are an impressive result! It's important that the Olympiad does not only help to identify talents but also introduces the school children to HSE as a university. I hope that in the future, we will see even more students from Vietnam in bachelor's programmes on all campuses of HSE University', says Alexander Deev, Director of International Talent Development.
Apart from the olympiad for Vietnamese school students, another goal of the trip was to establish academic partnerships with higher education institutions in the country. The delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg included representatives of the School of Economics and Management, the School of Social Sciences and the Centre for International Cooperation. They visited four universities: Foreign Trade University, National Economics University, VNU-University of Economics and Business and VNU-International University.
'Partnership with the above-mentioned universities expands the opportunities of HSE University-St Petersburg in terms of carrying out joint research, exchanging international experience, and increasing the international academic mobility of students and faculty. Moreover, at the VNU-International University in Ho Chi Minh City, the delegation participated in the Academic Year Opening Ceremony and presented the study opportunities at HSE University-St Petersburg', says Natalia Pyatkina, Director of the Centre of International Cooperation.
For the students of higher education institutions in Vietnam, professors and staff of HSE University-St Petersburg delivered a series of lectures on up-to-date issues. In her presentation, Liana Nagymanova, Manager of the School of Social Sciences, covered the use of GIS technologies in financial management and accounting. She talked about how maps with different levels of information, created in GIS, help to make financial decisions and maintain managerial accounting. The students also attended two lectures by Polina Artamoshina, Professor of the School of Economics and Management.
'My lectures cover quite up-to-date topics—creativity and teamwork in the context of high uncertainty as well as innovations in business models of small and medium-sized entrepreneurial companies. For the School of Economics and Management, cooperation with Vietnamese universities will help not only to increase and diversify project activities for students and professors but also enhance its international aspect. Case championships, conferences, joint scientific papers and projects—all these things contribute to developing the specialised skills of our students and staff. Meetings with the university representatives were productive and positive. We discussed the cooperation opportunities, especially in an online format', shares Polina Artamoshina, Professor of the School of Economics and Management.
Earlier, HSE University-St Petersburg has already started to develop partnerships with Vietnamese universities. A year ago, HSE University-St Petersburg and VNU-University of Economics and Business signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop cooperation between the two universities. The partnership allowed the universities to run joint teaching and research activities. Besides, the parties expressed their readiness for in-depth cultural exchange, organisation of joint forums, seminars and courses on economics and business.
