Annually, HSE University provides students of Asian and African Studies with opportunities to participate in mobility programmes in the countries of studied languages. Long-term academic mobility helps not only upgrade language proficiency but also dive into a completely different culture and understand it from the inside. Tatiana Shlychkova, student of the Department of Chinese, Southeast and South Asian Research, spent her fourth year of studies in Shanghai, having passed the selection to one of the most high-ranking universities in China—the Fudan University. The scholarship covered tuition and accommodation. In addition, Tatiana received a monthly allowance for personal expenses.

It was organised by the School of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science together with the Laboratory for Social and Cognitive Informatics supported by VK and other partners. A one-week intensive course gathered talented students, PhD students and developers from all over the country—from Moscow to Yekaterinburg as well as Kazakhstan and Egypt. Especially for them, leading experts from Russia, the UAE and India delivered courses on key trends in the sphere of artificial intelligence: from computer vision to music signal processing.

Marina Merkucheva came to HSE University-St Petersburg as an exchange student. Her educational path is different from the majority of international students. Several years ago, Marina enrolled in the National Autonomous University of Mexico and moved from a small village next to Kirov to Mexico City. But in 2023, she decided to come back to Russia to study under the student exchange programme and became a student of the School of Art and Design at HSE University-St Petersburg.
