The Centre for Youth Studies at HSE University-St Petersburg has held the International Research Conference 'Agency and Sustainability of Youth in the Age of Global Challenges'. More than 100 researchers from Russia, India, Argentina, and Brazil discussed the adaptation of young employees in the labour market, the influence of digitalisation on the youth's lives, the role of youth culture in the city, and other issues. Mir-Ali Askerov became a scientist out of curiosity: initially, he read about the activities of radical Islamist groups, and later, he learned how to study them academically. St Petersburg hosted the traditional philological conference 'October Readings—2024,' which addressed issues of inequality. It gathered more than 100 students and professors from universities across Russia and the CIS countries.

Magdalena Gaete, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education, took part in the international online conference AHIBS Global Research Exchange. The meeting was organised by the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). At the conference, the researchers discussed the work results of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM.

HSE University-St Petersburg showcased the national developments in artificial intelligence at one of the largest technological conferences in the Asia-Pacific region (APR)—'IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society Conference: Asia-Pacific' held in Indonesia. HSE University was the only Russian representative at the event. The conference was held at one of the leading technical universities in Indonesia—ITS where HSE University opened its representative office in 2023.

Pretty soon, HSE University-St Petersburg will go on the second expedition to the Himalayas organised together with the University of Delhi. This time, researchers will visit the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh which is known for more severe weather conditions at this time of the year. Together with colleagues from the Indian university, they will continue to study how the local communities adapt to ecological and climatic changes, focusing on the sociological aspect of the research.

St Petersburg took the 73rd place in the rating of innovative attractiveness of world cities 'HSE Global Cities Innovation Index 2024' (HSE GCII 2024) prepared by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge of HSE University. The city was ranked in the top 100 world cities in such directions as the city environment (43rd place), creative industries (92nd place) and technological development (97th place).
