Contemporary Development Trends in Logistics

On the 10th April 2015 the HSE laboratory for logistical research in St Petersburg and the Makarov University of Maritime and Inland Shipping held the XIV International Applied Research Conference on Contemporary Development Trends in Logistics.

Lecture by Jeanne Kormina at University of Michigan

On February 11, Jeanne Kormina (professor of anthropology and religious studies, Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg) gave a lecture "The Political Imagination of Russian Orthodoxy: National Identity and Imperial Heritage" at University of Michigan.

‘When we study history, we must be introspective’

Nathan Marcus, Assistant Professor of History, recently joined the HSE campus in St. Petersburg. A scholar of Modern European History, he has a book that will soon be published by Harvard University Press. Recently, he spoke with the HSE news service about his research and teaching interests, as well as on the important role that studying history plays in today’s society.

9th Russian Summer School in Information Retrieval (RuSSIR 2015)

The 9th Russian Summer School in Information Retrieval (RuSSIR 2015) will be held on August 24-28, 2015 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The school is co-organized by the Internet Studies Lab at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg (http://linis.hse.ru/en/) and the Russian Information Retrieval Evaluation Seminar (ROMIP, http://romip.ru/en/). RuSSIR 2015 will have an additional focus on social network analysis and graph mining.

December 19-21, 2014 the international research project "Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism" under directorship of Ronald Suny held a three-day seminar «Imagining Post-Imperial Order: New Historical Study of the Imperial Crisis» in Repino.

Round table "The Fall of the Berlin Wall: Past, Present, Future"

On the 6th of November a round table 'The Fall of the Berlin Wall: Past, Present, Future', took place to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Wall. Professor Alexander Semenov, Director of the History department at HSE St Petersburg and assistant at the Laboratory for Historical Research, Yana Kitaeva presented a paper in the research section of the event on 'The Question of German Reunification in Teymuraz Stepanov-Mamaladze’s Diaries'.

International Conference on Economics and Culture

On November 10−15, the IV International Conference ‘Cultural and Economic Changes in a Comparative Perspective’ took place in St. Petersburg. Organized by HSE’s Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, the conference has traditionally brought together Russian and foreign scholars working on issues of values, trust, social capital, corruption and inequality in a changing world, as well as the role of religion in political activity and other social issues in Russia and other countries.

On the 6th of November there was a round table called "The Fall of the Berlin Wall: Past, Present, Future", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. On the academic section of the round table a report "The German Question in Teymuraz Stepanov-Mamaladze’s Diaries" by the professor Alexander Semenov and Centre assistant Yana Kitaeva was submitted.

The Interview with Ronald Suny, Academic Director of the International Research Project 'Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism'

In 2014 the working group of the Department of History of Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg won the university competition and received institutional support for the international research project 'Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism.' The project’s academic director is Ronald Grigor Suny, Charles Tilly Collegiate Professor of Social and Political History, The University of Michigan; Emeritus Professor of Political Science and History, The University of Chicago; Senior Research Fellow, Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg.
