Elena Kochetkova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of History and a Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History, has received a prize for the best research on socialism awarded by the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory. Researchers from 13 countries participated in the competition.

On October 11-12, the HSE University - St Petersburg campus hosted the first ever international Kochubey Readings, devoted to the study of private collections in Russia and around the world. The conference took place under the patronage of the Kochubey family, members of which travelled to Russia from France, Belgium, and the U.S.
London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and HSE University – St Petersburg launch the Paulsen Programme, funded by the Dr Frederik Paulsen Foundation, in order to support historians in Russia who have been working on the period from the mid 17th century to 1918.
Our colleagues have started a new research project. The project is implemented by a consortium of leading international universities, including HSE - St. Petersburg. Its overall aim is to study the constitutional politics of ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity in the transition from empires to post-imperial arrangements following the Russian empire and the Soviet Union.
'In fact, the Russian language is very logical and my task is to disclose this to my students', says Alevtina A. Iagodova who has been teaching Russian for over 20 years. At HSE University – St. Petersburg she gives Russian classes to exchange students, organizes a language club, and promotes the Russian culture awareness among foreigners. Recently, she has been invited by the University of Indonesia to lead a workshop in order to share her knowledge and experience of teaching Russian as a foreign language with the local colleagues. In July, an international network project involving the Centre for Historical Research Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History was granted the support of two international research funds. This March Dr. Elena Cirkovic delivered a talk at the Manchester International Law Centre, titled "Extractive industries, climate change, and the Russian Arctic: global strategies and local adaptations". Dr. Cirkovic focused on new challenges international public law is facing due to climate change and extractive industry interests in the Arctic.
Marica Sharashenidze is a young researcher from the USA. She was an associate at HSE Laboratory of Sociology in Education and Science in 2016/2017 academic year. In the spring of 2016, she graduated from Rice University in Houston (Texas) with a bachelor's degree. While still a student of the last year, she wrote to professor Alexandrov, Director of Laboratory of Sociology in Education and Science, that she would like to come and do her research project in the Laboratory. From September 2016 to July 2017 Marika lived in St. Petersburg and studied migrant children in St. Petersburg schools. We talked to Marika about her research and how she spent this year in Russia.
