What is a student mobility programme?

International Student Mobility programme is an opportunity for the students from the partner universities to study at HSE University - Saint Petersburg for a period starting from 2 months to a full academic year. Academic year consists of 4 modules and exchange students can choose the mobility period they find more suitable.

Which mobility programmes are open for nominees?
  • Student Exchange Programmes within bilateral student exchange agreements (for students from Partner Universities)
  • Free mover programme (open for everyone; with tuition fee)
  • Summer school (open for everyone; with tuition fee)
  • Different courses of Centre for Russian Language and Culture (open for everyone; with tuition fee)
  • Double Degree Programmes (for students from Partner Universities)
What are the deadlines for nominations?

Autumn semester and full academic year 2026-2027:

Nomination deadline – May 5

Application deadline – May 20

Spring semester 2027:

Nomination deadline – October 1

Application deadline – October 15

Please note that the deadlines are also defined by the sending university and they are prior to the dates mentioned above. If you missed the deadline, please contact us and we will see what can be done (you should take into consideration that obtaining a Russian study visa may take up to 1,5 month).

What is the study mode?

Most of the courses are offline with possible online elements. HSE has also a limited number of online intercampus courses. 

Which courses are available for exchange students?

As an international student at HSE University - Saint Petersburg, you will be able to choose from a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in English and Russian languages. Please check the HSE Course Catalogue and apply filters (campus Saint Petersburg, academic year) to find the most relevant to your study programme. As a rule, exchange students attend courses within our educational programmes, the list of the programmes can be found here

Do I pay any tuition fees?

Participants of exchange-based programmes (bilateral, DD) usually pay their tuition fee to their home university and do not pay tuition fee at HSE University - Saint Petersburg. We expect students to bear the airfare, migration, accommodation and living expenses.

How to apply for Russian student visa?

For Russian student visa application you need to receive an invitation letter from us. More detailed information could be found in Invitation Letter and Russian study visa. Please read carefully the information about entering the Russian Federation in Visa & Immigration Support.

How to apply for a mobility programme and what are the steps during Nomination period?

  • Step  1: 

    Make sure you can find required courses for your study plan in a relevant language in our Course Catalogue.

  • Step  2: 

    Reach out to the International Office at your home university. You will be provided with information about the requirements, terms and conditions for a mobility programme at HSE University - Saint Petersburg.

  • Step  3: 

    Your home university coordinator will fill out our Nomination Form in order to inform us about your intention to study at HSE University - Saint Petersburg.

  • Step  4: 

    After being nominated, you will receive an email from us with all further details about you mobility period. You will get a list of documents you are required to provide for application process (see the preliminary list below). If your application is approved, we inform you and start the process of enrollment.

Application process

All nominated students will be contacted by International Student Mobility Office and provided with instructions on the application process. If students need to apply for Russian visa, we strongly recommend to submit the application before the deadline.
