The School of Arts and Humanities opened the Laboratory of Critical Theory of Culture. There, the researchers will engage in the development of new theory of culture in the fast-paced modern world. The head of the Laboratory was assigned to be Ivan Mikirtumov, Doctor of Philosophy and professor at HSE University-St Petersburg.

Galina Shirokova, Professor at the Department of Management at HSE University-St Petersburg, has worked alongside international researchers to identify the role of social circles and cultural values in the success of young businesswomen. They found that support within a group increases the chances of women engaging in entrepreneurship.

Moving to a new city often leads to temporary loneliness and a loss of familiar surroundings. This means that young people who move to a new place must find ways to adapt quickly. Can loneliness become a resourceful state, or does it suppress resourcefulness? Sociologists from HSE University-St Petersburg and Kazan Federal University (KFU) discussed this issue during the seminar 'SOC Up', which was based on research conducted as part of the Mirror Laboratory initiative.

The special issue of the international interdisciplinary journal Central Asian Survey has been published. It was co-edited by Oleg Korneev, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Affairs, mentor of one of the educational tracks in the Master's programme 'Comparative Politics of Eurasia'. The issue is devoted to the relations between the European Union and Central Asian countries. It features articles by three lecturers of HSE University-St Petersburg.

The results of the Russian part of the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students' Survey (GUESSS 2021) have been published. It found that Russian students show interest in entrepreneurship more often and think about starting their own business five years after graduation. Yury Kabanov, Academic Supervisor of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics', and his colleagues conducted a research on public administration in Russia during the pandemic and public opinion of people in the regions.
