The International Partners' Week at HSE University-St Petersburg united more than 100 representatives of leading universities from 23 countries. During the large forum, specialists of the campus, invited experts and international partners took part in panel discussions on artificial intelligence, the use of 'soft power', shaping a new generation of leaders and many other topics.

HSE University holds the status of a National Research University, a prestigious title given to a limited number of universities in Russia. As such, it has a strong commitment to training students to conduct academic research starting from the first year of bachelor’s studies. The university rewards academic research and creates an environment where students can participate in research competitions and work in research centres.

On November 29, the campus hosted the Expert Day of the HSE University-St Petersburg and University of Technology Malaysia mirror laboratory. The official partner of the event was the Our Future foundation.

The Centre for Youth Studies at HSE University-St Petersburg has held the International Research Conference 'Agency and Sustainability of Youth in the Age of Global Challenges'. More than 100 researchers from Russia, India, Argentina, and Brazil discussed the adaptation of young employees in the labour market, the influence of digitalisation on the youth's lives, the role of youth culture in the city, and other issues. Mir-Ali Askerov became a scientist out of curiosity: initially, he read about the activities of radical Islamist groups, and later, he learned how to study them academically. Magdalena Gaete, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education, took part in the international online conference AHIBS Global Research Exchange. The meeting was organised by the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). At the conference, the researchers discussed the work results of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM.

Pretty soon, HSE University-St Petersburg will go on the second expedition to the Himalayas organised together with the University of Delhi. This time, researchers will visit the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh which is known for more severe weather conditions at this time of the year. Together with colleagues from the Indian university, they will continue to study how the local communities adapt to ecological and climatic changes, focusing on the sociological aspect of the research.

St Petersburg took the 73rd place in the rating of innovative attractiveness of world cities 'HSE Global Cities Innovation Index 2024' (HSE GCII 2024) prepared by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge of HSE University. The city was ranked in the top 100 world cities in such directions as the city environment (43rd place), creative industries (92nd place) and technological development (97th place).

During his early years at university, physicist Ivan Makhov worried that he might be dismissed, but today he is heading a study supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation.
