HSE University–St Petersburg held the Third International Academic Conference ‘Army, Elites, and Society in the Middle East and North Africa.’ The event brought together researchers from Russia, Oman, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and several other countries.

Why do statistical methods sometimes yield unexpected results? How does the creative approach help to process data in complex linguistic research? Is there 'a magic button' to analyse the results? The answers to these and other questions were the topic of the three-day autumn school 'Statistics in Psycho- and Neurolinguistics.'

The International Partners' Week at HSE University-St Petersburg united more than 100 representatives of leading universities from 23 countries. During the large forum, specialists of the campus, invited experts and international partners took part in panel discussions on artificial intelligence, the use of 'soft power', shaping a new generation of leaders and many other topics.

HSE University holds the status of a National Research University, a prestigious title given to a limited number of universities in Russia. On November 29, the campus hosted the Expert Day of the HSE University-St Petersburg and University of Technology Malaysia mirror laboratory. The official partner of the event was the Our Future foundation.

The Centre for Youth Studies at HSE University-St Petersburg has held the International Research Conference 'Agency and Sustainability of Youth in the Age of Global Challenges'. More than 100 researchers from Russia, India, Argentina, and Brazil discussed the adaptation of young employees in the labour market, the influence of digitalisation on the youth's lives, the role of youth culture in the city, and other issues. The article outlines the highlights of the conference and its results.

Mir-Ali Askerov became a scientist out of curiosity: initially, he read about the activities of radical Islamist groups, and later, he learned how to study them academically. In this interview with the HSE Young Scientists project, he explains why he chose to study moderate political parties in Central Asia, discusses the concept of God's sovereignty in lawmaking currently adopted in Afghanistan, and shares his fascination with Sufism.

Magdalena Gaete, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education, took part in the international online conference AHIBS Global Research Exchange. The meeting was organised by the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). At the conference, the researchers discussed the work results of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM.
