Will Tourism Survive in a Changing World?

The international graduate student conference organized by the Master's Programme in Experience Economy, ‘Sustainable Tourism Development in the Changing World’ which took place from February 5-6 at HSE St. Petersburg, was a forum for the discussion of new approaches in researching the tourism and hospitality industries for young researchers from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, and South Korea.

‘When we study history, we must be introspective’

Nathan Marcus, Assistant Professor of History, recently joined the HSE campus in St. Petersburg. A scholar of Modern European History, he has a book that will soon be published by Harvard University Press. Recently, he spoke with the HSE news service about his research and teaching interests, as well as on the important role that studying history plays in today’s society.

On February 5 - 6, 2015, The Master's Programme in Experience Economy hosts International Graduate Conference which will gather graduate students from Russia as well as internationally.

‘Our programme turns tourism lovers into professionals’

Professor Valery Gordin, Head of the Faculty of Economics and Management at HSE St Petersburg, presents the Master’s Programme The Experience Economy: Hospitality and Tourism Management. He is academic supervisor of the course which comes under the Events Management and Cultural Tourism field of study at HSE St Petersburg. Teaching is in Russian and English.

Usable Pasts

In 2015, the international MA in English will launch, called Applied and Interdisciplinary History 'Usable Pasts'.The programme is headed by Associate Professor at the History Department, Julia Lajus, who told us about it.

BRICS Universities League at HSE St. Petersburg

On December 3, 2014, a delegation consisting of some of the largest Chinese universities from the BRICS Universities League visited HSE St. Petersburg.

International Conference on Economics and Culture

On November 10−15, the IV International Conference ‘Cultural and Economic Changes in a Comparative Perspective’ took place in St. Petersburg. Organized by HSE’s Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, the conference has traditionally brought together Russian and foreign scholars working on issues of values, trust, social capital, corruption and inequality in a changing world, as well as the role of religion in political activity and other social issues in Russia and other countries.

Round table 'The Fall of the Berlin Wall: Past, Present, Future'

On the 6th of November there was a round table called "The Fall of the Berlin Wall: Past, Present, Future", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. On the academic section of the round table a report "The German Question in Teymuraz Stepanov-Mamaladze’s Diaries" by the professor Alexander Semenov and Centre assistant Yana Kitaeva was submitted.

IV LCSR Annual Conference Has Started

Today, on the 10th of November, the 4th International Annual Research Conference (2014): “Cultural and Economic changes under cross-national perspective”has started in St. Petersburg. Members of the LCSR research network will present their projects on more than dozen thematic panels devoted to urgent social, political and economic issues. The conference also includes plenary sessions where renowned social scientists will give lecturers.

The Interview with Ronald Suny, Academic Director of the International Research Project 'Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism'

In 2014 the working group of the Department of History of Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg won the university competition and received institutional support for the international research project 'Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism.' The project’s academic director is Ronald Grigor Suny, Charles Tilly Collegiate Professor of Social and Political History, The University of Michigan; Emeritus Professor of Political Science and History, The University of Chicago; Senior Research Fellow, Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg.
