The first HSE tri-campus history majors conference From Huge Comparisons to Thick Descriptions: Historical Research and Interpretation,October 1-4, 2014, was a genuine intellectual and organizational feat. The hosts from HSE St Petersburg welcomed students and doctoral candidates from HSE campuses in Moscow, St Petersburg and Perm in the comfortable and quiet setting of the Kochubey Mansion suburban congress center in Pushkin.

HSE St. Petersburg to Host Presentations on Past and Current History in Media

On Tuesday, October 7, at 5:00 p.m., BBC News Special Correspondent Allan Little and Charlie Taylor, the Executive Producer of “The War That Changed The World,” will give a presentation on “Representations of the Past and Current History in Media” at the regular Research Seminar "Boundaries of History" of the Center for Historical Research and the Department of History of the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg.

Proof that the Internet and Social Media Impact Protests

HSE-St. Petersburg has hosted the Social Media and Social Movements conference, organized by the Laboratory for Internet Studies (LINIS). Over two days, participants from Germany, Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, Iran and other countries presented reports about the connections between individuals' activity on social media and their offline activity, and on whether social media impact the desire to protest or take part in social movements.

Global Management Challenge: HSE Valor is in the Top Three

The national final of the Global Management Challenge, a contest about strategy and business administration, has come to an end. Over 12,000 students and business representatives from all over Russia participated in the 2013/2014 season. The awards ceremony took place at Sberbank’s central office in Moscow.

Christian Welzel, leading professor at the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) HSE St Petersburg received the 2014 Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research in recognition of his book «Freedom Rising: Human Empowerment and the Quest for Emancipation».

HSE master’s students to study alongside students from the University of Maryland

Joint classes will begin in February 2015 for first-year master’s students in the State and Local Administration programme at HSE’s St. Petersburg campus and students in the Urban Studies and Planning master’s programme at the University of Maryland (U.S.). Classes will be held in the format of video conferences and take place once a week over the course of three semesters.
