HSE University is this year’s leading Russian university in 11 subjects in the Shanghai Ranking. In seven of these, the university is the only Russian higher education institution to appear. This year, the university was ranked among the top universities for Communications for the first time and returned to the ranking for Sociology.

Students of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics' have carried out joint research with the pharmaceutical company GEROPHARM. Together with experts, the future political scientists studied the restrictions faced by families of children with type 1 diabetes.

From September 25–29, HSE University-Moscow hosted International Partners’ Week. Annually, HSE University gathers representatives of the world’s leading universities and academic supervisors of HSE educational programmes from campuses in Moscow, St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm. At HSE University-St Petersburg, except for the main learning trajectory, over two years, the students master an additional one—a minor. It can help to find new optics for research, choose a profession or simply broaden the horizons. A minor helped Tatyana Novotolskaya, a graduate of the Bachelor's programme 'Sociology and Social Informatics', not only find a new area for research but also get enrolled in the Master's programme at Oxford University. Victoria Sharonova is a second-year student of the Master's programme 'Modern Social Analysis'. She is combining work and studies and recently moved to Italy under the double-degree programme between HSE University-St Petersburg and the University of Trento. In her interview, Victoria speaks about the admissions process, difficulties with accommodation and food, and the peculiarities of studying in Italy.

On April 8–10, HSE University-St Petersburg will hold the fifth Model United Nations conference (MUN). The event will take place offline in English and both current and prospective students can participate. The application deadline is March 15. Central Asian Survey, published by Taylor & Francis, is the leading international peer-reviewed, multi-disciplinary journal concerned with the history, politics, cultures, religions and economies of Central Asia and the Caucasus. Oleg Korneev, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Affairs, HSE University-St Petersburg, co-edited the special issue ‘EU–Central Asian Interactions: Perceptions, Interests and Practices’ together with his colleagues Rick Fawn (University of St Andrews) and Karolina Kluczewska (University of Ghent).

Aigul Akhmetova, student of the Bachelor’s programme ‘Sociology and Social Informatics’, participated in the course ‘Business Development in Europe’ at the summer school at Rennes School of Business in France. She told us about her exciting trip to France and shared her experience of participating in the summer school programme.
