In 2024, scientists from HSE University-St Petersburg went on two expeditions to the Indian Himalayas. The second trip finished at the beginning of October, and now, the researchers are summing up its results. The Centre for Youth Studies at HSE University-St Petersburg has held the International Research Conference 'Agency and Sustainability of Youth in the Age of Global Challenges'. More than 100 researchers from Russia, India, Argentina, and Brazil discussed the adaptation of young employees in the labour market, the influence of digitalisation on the youth's lives, the role of youth culture in the city, and other issues. Magdalena Gaete, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education, took part in the international online conference AHIBS Global Research Exchange. The meeting was organised by the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). At the conference, the researchers discussed the work results of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM.
Pretty soon, HSE University-St Petersburg will go on the second expedition to the Himalayas organised together with the University of Delhi. This time, researchers will visit the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh which is known for more severe weather conditions at this time of the year. Together with colleagues from the Indian university, they will continue to study how the local communities adapt to ecological and climatic changes, focusing on the sociological aspect of the research.
Six HSE students have returned from the expedition to the Himalayas organised by the St Petersburg School of Social Sciences and the University of Delhi. Together with colleagues from the Indian university, they studied local mountain communities of the western part of the Himalayas. The intermediate result of this trip was three hypotheses about the sustainable development of the region. The international project was the first stage of joint climate change research planned for five years.
Magdalena Gaete, the head of the Project-Based Learning Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education at HSE University-St Petersburg, won the Best Case in Social Entrepreneurship award at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). She presented a study on the transformation of elderly care in Russia, conducted within the framework of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM. The award was presented to Magdalena Gaete by the Dean of the Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), Professor Dr Rosmini Omar.
Students of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics' have carried out joint research with the pharmaceutical company GEROPHARM. Together with experts, the future political scientists studied the restrictions faced by families of children with type 1 diabetes.
