'Scientist's Code' is a new feature on the university website in which we will introduce you to the scientists of HSE University-St Petersburg, their research, orienting points and hobbies. The first guest is Yana Krupets, Candidate of Social Sciences, Deputy Director of the Centre for Youth Studies and Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology. Over her work at HSE University-St Petersburg, she has been awarded the title of the best professor nine times. We talked to the researcher about what ethical dilemmas AI sets for sociologists, why it is important to study the youth and what drawing gives a researcher.

Magdalena Gaete, the head of the Project-Based Learning Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education at HSE University-St Petersburg, won the Best Case in Social Entrepreneurship award at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). She presented a study on the transformation of elderly care in Russia, conducted within the framework of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM. The award was presented to Magdalena Gaete by the Dean of the Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), Professor Dr Rosmini Omar.

In 2023, Alexander Sorokin became the new dean of the School of Social Sciences and Area Studies. Among his research interests are socio-environmental research and social research into higher education, and science. Oleg Korneev, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Affairs, HSE University-St Petersburg, co-edited the special issue ‘EU–Central Asian Interactions: Perceptions, Interests and Practices’ together with his colleagues Rick Fawn (University of St Andrews) and Karolina Kluczewska (University of Ghent).

In 2022, Yadviga Sinyavskaya from the Laboratory for Social and Cognitive Informatics published an article about privacy on social media. It is a part of the laboratory's project on how people build connections and what helps them. We talked to the sociologist about how people try to protect personal information and what makes these measures more effective.
