Alexander Sorokin, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at HSE University–St Petersburg, was a key speaker at the Himalaya Calling global summit at UPES University in India.

A team from HSE University–St Petersburg has returned from an expedition to the Himalayas. Together with colleagues from the universities of Delhi and Jammu, they studied the local mountain communities of the northern part of the famous mountain system.

Malaysia hosted the AHIBS 'Weaving Horizons for Sustainable Impact' international conference, which featured the presentation of the first Russian–Malaysian book of research articles.

On November 4, the International Science Fiction Symposium 'Inventing the Future' started in Moscow at the Russia National Centre. The Centre for Youth Studies at HSE University-St Petersburg has held the International Research Conference 'Agency and Sustainability of Youth in the Age of Global Challenges'. More than 100 researchers from Russia, India, Argentina, and Brazil discussed the adaptation of young employees in the labour market, the influence of digitalisation on the youth's lives, the role of youth culture in the city, and other issues. The article outlines the highlights of the conference and its results.

St Petersburg hosted the traditional philological conference 'October Readings—2024,' which addressed issues of inequality. It gathered more than 100 students and professors from universities across Russia and the CIS countries.

In October, the faculty and staff of HSE University-St Petersburg held the HSE International Olympiad and Mathematical Olympiad by HSE University at three schools in Hanoi. The tasks on social sciences were designed by professors of HSE University-St Petersburg. During the trip, the delegation also visited higher education institutions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including VNU University of Economics and Business (VNU-UEB), a partner of HSE University-St Petersburg. There, professors delivered a series of open lectures for students.

Magdalena Gaete, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education, took part in the international online conference AHIBS Global Research Exchange. The meeting was organised by the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). At the conference, the researchers discussed the work results of the mirror laboratory of HSE University-St Petersburg and UTM.

Lots of people know Alexander Sorokin as a Dean of the St Petersburg School of Social Sciences but earlier, he engaged in the history of science and studied the Tomsk physicists. At the moment, he is working at the junction of several areas—anthropology, research on science and technology and environmental history, helps our students to study the local communities in the Indian Himalayas. We discussed with the Candidate of Historical Sciences what it was like to work constantly at the junction of various spheres, go on expeditions and run three marathons in different locations across the globe.
