On March 6, 2017 HSE St.Petersburg delegation participated in the Global Economics Consortium meeting hosted by School of Economics Fudan University (SOE Fudan).

Coverage algorithms for objects of urban environment

On March 11 was held another seminar and workshop within the framework of our Research Group "Machine Learning and Social Computing". The first part of the event was devoted to the second part of the workshop of topic modeling and text mining. Next, Irina Krylova and Stanislav Kozlov told about visualization geocodes in R and Python. The main participants of the event were participants of our Research Group, students, undergraduates, post-graduate students and teachers of BAs "Sociology and Social Informatics" and "Political Science", as well as students of Minor "Data analysis".

Fudan University Delegation Visits HSE St.Petersburg

The meeting between the Fudan University delegation and Russian colleagues from HSE St.Petersburg was entitled ‘Student Governance at University: Experience in Russia and China’ and provided a valuable opportunity for both parties with different backgrounds and experience to present their visions, exchange and share their experiences and ideas, as well as discussing the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted.

HSE Enters 13 QS Subject Rankings

The Higher School of Economics has made it onto 13 subject and two broader subject rankings in the QS World University Ranking thanks to the university’s achievements as part of the 5-100 Project. In addition, HSE was in the top 100 ranking for three areas – Economics and Econometrics, Politics and International Studies, and Sociology – and it was the only Russian school in the Accounting & Finance 101-150 ranking. As for total number of subject area rankings, HSE was third in Russia after only Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University.

University of Oslo Professors Deliver Series of Public Lectures on Norway

On February 16, 2017, students at HSE St. Petersburg were exposed to a variety of interesting topics on the social, economic, political and cultural life of Norway when professors from the University of Oslo gave a series of lectures intended to excite curiosity about the country. The lectures were held at the initiative of the Norwegian Embassy in Moscow in cooperation with the University of Oslo. Heidi Olufsen, the Consul General of Norway in St. Petersburg, invited students to continue discovering and attend a future lecture on Fridtjof Nansen, the famous Norwegian explorer, scientist and diplomat.

First International Full-Time Application Round Results Drawn Up

On February the 20-th, 2017 the HSE – Saint Petersburg Selection Committee completed the review of applications submitted by the international applicants within the first application round.

"Interaction and Intelligence" Workshop

The workshop organised by our group took place during two Saturdays, February 18th and 25th, and gathered students from different cohorts and programmes, who are interested in Social Computing and Interaction Design. 

Meeting Your Peers and Making Great Buddies at HSE

Prior to coming to St Petersburg, international students may anticipate some difficulty settling into a drastically new culture and lifestyle, and completing the more mundane tasks, such as navigating the transport system. However, Buddy Club at HSE St Petersburg helps make the transition smoother. Roland Mortimer, exchange student from University College London, shares his experience.

Social computing around us: participants of the Research Group at the International Student Conference

On the 2-3rd of February the international student conference was held in Higher School of Economics in Saint-Petersburg. It gathered many young researchers from Russia, as well as from near abroad. Members of the Research Group presented their results at the “Social Informatics: Internet Research, Social Media, Computer Games etc.” section.
