Meeting Your Peers and Making Great Buddies at HSE

Prior to coming to St Petersburg, international students may anticipate some difficulty settling into a drastically new culture and lifestyle, and completing the more mundane tasks, such as navigating the transport system. However, Buddy Club at HSE St Petersburg helps make the transition smoother. Roland Mortimer, exchange student from University College London, shares his experience.

Social computing around us: participants of the Research Group at the International Student Conference

On the 2-3rd of February the international student conference was held in Higher School of Economics in Saint-Petersburg. It gathered many young researchers from Russia, as well as from near abroad. Members of the Research Group presented their results at the “Social Informatics: Internet Research, Social Media, Computer Games etc.” section.

On January 21 the first adjusting seminar of Research Group "Machine Learning and Social Computing" took a place. Current plans and the main ideas about future work were discussed; design and some results of researches on social algorithms in online games and eSports were presented.

HSE Students Attend Winter Symposium in Computational Social Science 2016

On November 30 - December 1, 2016,  twelve bachelor’s students from educational programmes in Sociology and Social Informatics, Asian and African Studies, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Economics and HSE lecturers Daniil Aleksandrov, Alena Suvorova, and Ilya Musabirov took part in the Winter Symposium in Computational Social Science held in Cologne.

Web Science Summer School 2016

From June 30 to July 6 the Web Science Summer School 2016 was held at the University of Koblenz (Germany). The event was dedicated to the Internet and social media studies. Alina Bakhitova, who is studying Sociology and Social Informatics, took part and shares her impressions of the event. 

Researchers from HSE Centre for Youth Studies Traveled to Finland

Elena Omelchenko, Yana Krupets, and Guzel Sabirova came back from Helsinki with good news. Their trip has expanded the framework for cooperation with colleagues from Finland.
