Alexandra Polosukhina, manager of Career Centre, talked to Liudmila Veselova, Academic Supervisor of the Master's programme ‘Business and Politics in Modern Asia’, about the employment of the graduated sinologists.

During her studies in the Sociology and Social Informatics programme, a fourth-year student Dina Vasina got interested in disciplines related to data analysis and mathematics. In November, Dina completed her internship at Yandex within the Yandex.Poisk project where she got a chance to try her hand at product management. In this interview, the student shared with us her thoughts on studying sociology, future career plans and impressions on the internship.

Having earned degrees in International Relations and Energy, Tulio Bunder from Brazil wanted to pursue his research in Eurasian Energy Geopolitics, which led him to the Master's programme in Comparative Politics of Eurasia. Though based in another BRICS country, he decided to study in Russia—and despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and his long-distance relationship with Saint Petersburg and HSE University, he seems happy with his choice.

Aruuke Uran Kyzy, a second-year student in the graduate Programme ‘Comparative Politics of Eurasia’ at HSE University — St. Petersburg, a journalist and a contributing analyst in the field of Politics of Eurasia, talks us through her experience. Professor Aleksey A. Maslov, a well-known sinologist and director of the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, heads the Academic Council of the master’s programme ‘Business and Politics in Modern Asia’. He is directly involved in the formation of the concept of the program and its development. We asked Alexey Maslovabout modern oriental studies and the prospects for graduates in this sphere.

Upon finishing undergraduate and graduate programmes in Political Science (2014, 2016), Sofia Glazunova went to study in a PhD programme in Australia. Now Sofia is a research fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), lecturer, and the author of the book I'm Going to Live in Brisbane, dedicated to her experience of moving to Australia and myths about studying abroad. In an interview, Sofia discusses her blog on Telegram, how it was transformed into a book, and the pitfalls one can encounter in the publishing business.

Nikolay Kapanadze, a student of 'Asian and African Studies' bachelor’s programme, went for an exchange to Japan where he studied at Akita International University. The student tasted traditional food such as sushi and miso soup, travelled to Tokyo, and even worked in a local noodle restaurant. Nikolay told HSE – Saint Petersburg why it is necessary to have cash in Japan, where one can relax in Tokyo, and what are meal prices at the university canteen.
