HSE Saint Petersburg Summer School is a chance for you to explore one of the most exciting cities in the world while getting a high-quality education. We offer you an opportunity to combine different courses from various fields of studies — Economics, Finance, Data Science, Social Science and Humanities — and receive ECTS credits while gaining insights into the Russian world.
This year, we prepared a cultural programme for the participants of HSE Saint Petersburg Summer School. The whole course 'Modern Russia: Language and Culture' was taught by devoted, supportive professors who consistently showed their comprehensive knowledge and practical methods of teaching. The course 'Finance, Corporations and Sustainability' was very useful to me, and the professors delivered a lot of material in the form of intensive classes perfectly. I think that the most valuable material was that on risk management with the use of time series in R. I liked Andrey Starodubtsev’s course 'Public Administration in the Post-Soviet Space' because it provides a knowledge base in the field of political processes in the post-Soviet space from the collapse of the Soviet Union to the present day. During this course we could analyse how society and political system of various states has changed.

I must say the schedule was perfectly balanced: on the one hand it permitted a deep study of the subject of the courses, and on the other hand, it granted us plenty of time to discover the city on our own as well as through the cultural and social activities organized by our Russian buddies. Indeed, this programme allowed me to gain more knowledge in the academic field, by learning more about Russian politics and the Russian language, but it also taught me to go out of my comfort zone; Russia – and mostly Saint Petersburg – is full of opportunities to seize, and even though the cultural differences can sometimes be quite tough to overcome, this is always rewarding.

Introduction to Digital Politics: Eurasia in the Global Context (3 ECTS) – ENG, Online/In-person
Approaching the study of government and politics in connection to digital technologies and social media, this course provides a broad introduction to revolutionising concepts of digital politics.
Public Administration in the Post-Soviet Space (3 ECTS) – RUS, Online/In-person
The course covers the major characteristics and peculiarities of public administration in the countries which used to be a part of the Soviet Union.

The course addresses the complex interaction of geographical and institutional factors of development.

The course aims at introducing students to key personalities, monuments and artifacts of classical Russian culture (XVIII – XX centuries) and their coverage in new media.

Through this intensive course students will acquire practical skills in working with statistical data.

During this course you will be immersed in the unique history of Saint Petersburg from its founding to the end of the 20th century.

This course will guide you through different steps of building data-driven solutions as well as introduce you to different methods and tools necessary for solving project tasks.

Workshop covers the basic techniques of printmaking as a form of fine art.
