Ekaterina Shevyakova is a fourth-year student of the programme 'Political Science and World Politics', and she has been invited to a prestigious Master's programme in entrepreneurship at one of the world's leading universities. In this interview, Ekaterina talks about why she chose HSE Univesity — Saint Petersburg, what skills helped her enter a foreign university, and why a broad undergraduate education is beneficial.

The international ambassador project is one of the leading projects by the International Office of HSE University — St. Petersburg. This project helps create awareness about the University in various countries and hometowns. Ibuowo Grace, a fourth-year student of the BA Programme 'Political Science and World Politics' who is serving her second year as the international student ambassador of HSE University, told us about her experience.

We have asked Dr Anna Tarasenko, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Comparative Governance Studies (HSE University in St Petersburg) to tell us about the course and her expectations from this innovative format of teaching in partnership with colleagues from abroad.

As part of the Basic Research Support Program, the Center for Youth Studies, the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, and the International Laboratory for Social and Cognitive Informatics have opened a competition for research interns. 

In March, master’s students Daria Bobarykina and Mackenzie Tubridy will take part in the Virtual Winter School hosted by the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). Founded in 1970, ECPR is a UK-based academic association geared towards the promotion and development of political science research. Among other things, ECPR serves as a forum for research and professional networking, issues grants and provides funding opportunities to scholars, steers publishing programmes, as well as delivers methodological training to graduate students and early-career researchers. The Higher School of Economics is one of the more than 300 member institutions from the association, and it was thanks to support from HSE that the students from the university’s Saint-Petersburg campus were able to enrol in the Virtual Winter School.

Many students at Higher School of Economics keep their personal blogs or publish them in different news outlets. Aruuke Uran Kyzy, a second-year student in the graduate Programme ‘Comparative Politics of Eurasia’ at HSE University — St. Petersburg, a journalist and a contributing analyst in the field of Politics of Eurasia, talks us through her experience. She has prominent publications for news outlets such as TRT World, The Diplomat, and she also writes for her personal blog.

On the 17th of November, the HSE SPb held an annual students’ conference - Research Day. 7 students from the Saint-Petersburg school of social science and area studies programmes took wins in all tracks.

The agreement on the development of a double degree programme between the HSE master's programme 'Business and Politics in Modern Asia' and the University of Ca’ Foscari Master's programme in 'Language and Management in China' is successfully signed.

Many of them who join the master’s programme want to develop their research skills. This master’s programme is the important stage for them to pursue postgraduate and doctoral studies. Qualitative methodological training and an opportunity to participate in international scientific projects become the priority. The academic track “Theory and Methodology of Modern Political Science” is opened especially for those students in the comparative politics of Eurasia MA programme.
