In 2023, Alexander Sorokin became the new dean of the School of Social Sciences and Area Studies. Among his research interests are socio-environmental research and social research into higher education, and science. In this interview, Prof. Sorokin talks about new educational programmes, partner research, and mobility directions.

In the previous interview with the programme's Academic Supervisor we mentioned a promising academic collaboration between HSE University – Saint Petersburg and the University of Milan. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the master's program ‘Business and Politics in Modern Asia’ opens a new online course dedicated to the study and comparative analysis of the Asian and European labour markets. The discipline was developed with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Lecturers and authors of the course – Liudmila Veselova and Natalia Ribberink – told us about the content of the discipline, its importance for students, and their expectations.

We have asked Dr Anna Tarasenko, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Comparative Governance Studies (HSE University in St Petersburg) to tell us about the course and her expectations from this innovative format of teaching in partnership with colleagues from abroad.

In 2021, HSE University – St. Petersburg will launch a new and unique Master’s programme in collaboration with University College London – the worldwide-renowned centre of academic excellence and the world's Top-10 university.

The agreement on the development of a double degree programme between the HSE master's programme 'Business and Politics in Modern Asia' and the University of Ca’ Foscari Master's programme in 'Language and Management in China' is successfully signed.

In the new joint master's programme 'Comparative Russian and Eurasian Politics', which will begin accepting applications in 2021, students will divide their time betwee University College London and HSE University - Saint Petersburg. Upon graduation, students will earn a double degree awarded by both universities. The programme is of interest of those who want to study politics in Russia and the post-Soviet region and gain a deeper knowledge of the area that will equip them for region-related careers or further study at the doctoral level.

Our prospective students ask about opportunity to learn intenrational relations in the programme "Comparative Politics of Eurasia". Professor Irina Busygina, one of the best experts in international reltions in Russia, tells about study track "Relations between Russia and European Union" in our programme.

Many of them who join the master’s programme want to develop their research skills. This master’s programme is the important stage for them to pursue postgraduate and doctoral studies. Qualitative methodological training and an opportunity to participate in international scientific projects become the priority. The academic track “Theory and Methodology of Modern Political Science” is opened especially for those students in the comparative politics of Eurasia MA programme.
