MAGOLEGO
MAGOLEGO is a name for the general set of elective subjects that must be chosen by first-year Master’s students in all educational programmes.
Why is it called MAGOLEGO?
A LEGO construction set allows nonstandard objects to be created from standard elements. The MAGOLEGO project performs this role for first-year Master’s study. The set of open optional courses from which students can choose ‘blocks’ for their individual curriculum includes the best courses offered by all HSE faculties and schools.
A MAGOLEGO subject
- is studied during the first year of study;
- is carried out during the second half of the academic year (modules 3 and 4);
- ‘weighs’ 3 credits;
- is part of the educational programme’s core (credits for the subject are part of the 60 credits of the core programme);
- is chosen by each educational programme’s students independently from the general set, which includes at least 40 subjects.
Classes of MAGOLEGO subjects take place on a specific day for all first-year Master’s students, which is why there can be no conflicts in the schedule with other subjects in the curriculum. Choosing two or three MAGOLEGO subjects would present a problem, since all MAGOLEGO classes take place at the same time.
The academic supervisor cannot prevent a student from taking a certain MAGOLEGO subject, but a student can be denied registration due to lack of certain knowledge or skills, as some of the subjects have prerequisites. Restrictions in choosing a course are noted in the subject programme.
