HSE University – St Petersburg has been training IT specialists since 2017. It was then that the University opened its very first programmes in Computer Science – ‘Big Data Analysis in Business, Economy, and Society’ and ‘Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction’.

In 2018, a completely new faculty, the St Petersburg School of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, was established. Now it is a faculty of over 40 teachers and researchers, 90 undergraduate students, and 40 graduate students. The school includes:

  • Department of Information Science;
  • Department of Applied Mathematics and Business Informatics;
  • Joint department with JetBrains;
  • Centre for Data Analysis and Machine Learning.

The school has opened three brand-new programmes – ‘Applied Mathematics and Information Science’ (Bachelor's degree), ‘Software Development and Data Analysis’ (Master's degree) and ‘Enterprise Software Development’ (Master's degree).

Bachelor's Programme ‘Applied Mathematics and Information Science’

Applied Mathematics and Information Science’ is a perfect choice for those who want to become expert IT-specialists in the fields of software development, programming languages, and data analysis and machine learning. Students gain both a strong foundation in the material and hands-on experience. Starting in their third year, students choose individual learning tracks, upon which they then have the opportunity to complete internships in leading IT-companies. Graduates of the programme have the choice of continuing their studies at the Master's level or working as programmers and researchers.

Master's Programme ‘Software Development and Data Analysis’

Software Development and Data Analysis’ is designed for applicants who already have advanced skills and want to pursue in-depth research in the field of programming and data analysis. Students learn the fundamental aspects of software development, basic and advanced models of machine learning and data analysis, as well as mathematical foundations, methodologies, methods and algorithms for developing programming languages. The programme is aimed at training top scientists who are able to perform both research and practical work.

Master’s Programme ‘Enterprise Software Development’

Enterprise Software Development’ is oriented toward students who do not have broad experience in programming but are able to master new technologies of software development. The aim of the programme is to prepare competent professionals in a short time.

Admissions for international applicants are already open. If you would like to learn more about the admissions procedures, entrance trials, scholarships and tuition fee waivers, or submit your application, please visit the International Admission website.
