The course focuses on the development of Russian universities in relation to external and internal economic, sociocultural and political changes.
Course Description
The purpose of the course is to reveal the phenomenon of Russian universities and to form a systematic understanding of the evolution of the country's higher education in the context of historical and modern changes.
Content
- Universityology (who, how and why studies universities, university images and ideas)
- Evolution of the university model (medieval, Humboldtian, entrepreneurial, corporate and others)
- Continuity and innovation in the development of Russian higher education: from the imperial period to modern times
- University Man: Historical dynamics of the university community
Skills and Competence
You will learn:
- what approaches exist to understanding and 'measuring' a university;
- how the evolution of university models proceeded: global and Russian context;
- what is the specificity of a 'university man' in historical retrospect, and also how the personnel policy of higher education in Russia has evolved;
- how gaps and continuities relate in the management and development of Russian higher education.
Prerequisites
The course does not require any specific prior knowledge from the students.
