Articles have been prepared as part of the "Post-Imperial Diversity" project which is being implemented in 2018-2020 as part of a fundamental research competition conducted by the RFBR in the Era.net RUS Plus Research Program in a research consortium with the Karelian Institute of the University of Eastern Finland and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity of the University of Goettingen, Germany

"Boundaries of History": Igal Halfin about “Bolshevik Love”

On September 26, 2019, in frames of the seminar “Boundaries of History” Igal Halfin presented his report entitled “Bolshevik Love”. At the University of Tel Aviv (Israel) professor Halfin teaches Russian and European history, his scientific interests include early Soviet history, political philosophy, Marxism, the theory of psychoanalysis and etc. In his latest, but not yet finished book, Igal Halfin explores the political language of Communist Party cells (партячейки) of Leningrad and Tomsk Institutes in 1920s-30s and his main task is to reproduce semantic, ritual structure of the party life of these years.

US Professor Speaks on Shifting Identities of Russian Repatriates from China

On September 5, Laurie Manchester, Associate Professor of History at Arizona State University, presented her paper on voluntary repatriation of Russians from China to the Soviet Union between 1935 and 1960. The presentation was part of the research seminar, ‘Boundaries of History’, held regularly by the Department of History at HSE University in St. Petersburg. HSE News Service spoke with Laurie Manchester about her research interests, collaborating with HSE faculty members, and the latest workshop.

“Boundaries of History”: Sabine Dullin (Sciences Po) on Soviet Borders as thickening zones

On June 13, 2019 Department of History and the Center for Historical Research at the HSE in St Petersburg had a session of the “Boundaries of History” research seminar where Dr. Sabine Dullin, Professor in Contemporary History at Sciences Po (Institut d’études politiques) and the author of the book “Men of Influence: Stalin's Diplomats in Europe, 1930-1939” presented the talk “Soviet Borders as thickening zones. The political imagination and practices of an old but new state (1917-1940)”.

On February 12-13, Heidelberg hosted the conference “Parliaments and Political Transformations in Europe and Asia: Diversity and Representation in the 20th and 21st Century”, supported by the EuParl.Net network. (part of which is the Center for Historical Research in St. Petersburg). The workshop, which is part of the project “Entangled Parliamentarisms: Constitutional Practices in Russia, Ukraine, China and Mongolia, 1905 - 2005,” was devoted to the exploring the role of parliaments in Eastern Europe and East Asia.
