The Academic Council has confirmed a new draft of the Regulations for Interim and Ongoing Assessments of Students at the Higher School of Economics.

Academic excellence projects, similar to Russia’s Project 5-100, are common in many countries, but BRICS countries typically have the largest number of universities participating in such projects. That is perhaps why the ranking of the top universities in the five BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – prepared by the QS ranking agency is of particular interest. For two years in a row, 10 Russian universities have been steadily entering the top 50 of this ranking. This time, HSE has taken 37th place, improving its result on last year.

Since 2013, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has cooperated with HSE. This year, a record number of scholarship places will be available for German students to study in HSE short-term programmes through the Go East initiative.

The Department of History is pleased to announce an intensive course of Professor Ronald G. Suny, (University of Michigan and the Head of the International Research Project “Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism” of the HSE University in Saint-Petersburg) "Russia’s Empires. Thinking About Empire" for undergraduate and graduate students.

On September, 8^th the HSE St Petersburg’s History Department opened a new Summer School on “The Topography of Imperial Power: the Political Space of St. Petersburg” . (The Academic Director of the school is Dr. Dietmar Wulff- long-term Associate Professor of DAAD and Associate Professor of the Department of History, HSE SPb.).

The first part of the seminar ‘Culture of Historical Memory: World War II and Political Regimes of the 20th Century’, dedicated to the politics of history and memory of World War II in Germany, controversies and intersections between public, family and private memories of the war was held at Humboldt University in Berlin on July 6-12.

A one-month-long exchange for students from the Centre for Russian, European, and Eurasian Studies at Birmingham University (UK) in HSE has come to a close. They share their impressions.

A group of undergraduate history students is going to a research seminar in Berlin and Bielefeld. The trip is possible thanks to a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Undergraduate history students of HSE in St. Petersburg, research assistants of the Centre of Historical Studies, and members of the research and study group ‘Applied Geoinformatics in the Humanities’ recently visited Heidelberg University.

The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) received funding from the Centre for International Mobility (CIMO) of Finland in order to intensify international student and teacher exchange with HSE –  Saint-Petersburg through the Finnish-Russian Student and Teacher Exchange Network (FIRST).
