‘Per Aspera Ad Astra’: Results of International Student Admissions Campaign – 2020
The year 2020 has been very challenging for international education, but new challenges have brought new opportunities. Despite the pandemic, HSE – St Petersburg managed to increase its international enrollment numbers. Below is a roundup of the highlights and key figures of the 2020 international admissions campaign.
The number of international students enrolled in HSE University – St. Petersburg
This year the university saw a 4% increase in international student enrollment with an undergraduate/graduate student ratio of 65 to 35% (last year’s ratio was 70 to 30%).
The most popular Bachelor’s degree programmes among international applicants are ‘Economics’ and ‘International Business and Management’. The most sought-after Master’s degree programmes are ‘Management and Analytics for Business’ and a new programme in ‘International Business’ (first intake in 2020). These patterns attest to HSE´s expertise in the fields of Economics and Management, demonstrated as well by the university’s high rankings in the QS subject rankings in these areas. Among other interesting trends, the large increase of student interest towards programmes in Design and Law was observed.
Geography
This year's international student body represents 58 countries, compared to 50 countries in the year 2019. The majority of international bachelor’s students come from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Moldova, Latvia, and Ukraine, while most graduate international freshmen represent China, Ghana, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.
