Graduates of the Comparative Politics of Eurasia program discuss their master's thesis research and the process of defending it.

This summer 12 students from our program successfully defended their master's theses. We spoke with graduates of the Comparative Politics of Eurasia program about their projects, the reasons behind their choice of topics, the process of working on a research design, and the defense process. The results of the double degree program competition with the University of Trento have been announced

Last week, the results of the competition for double degree programs became known. Four 1st-year students of the Comparative Politics of Eurasia program won the opportunity to spend the next academic year at the partner university of the program and receive two diplomas at the end of their studies - the HSE in St. Petersburgand and the University of Trento. 
We talked to the winners of the competition and found out what they expect from studying in Italy.

Quick Recap of Double Degree Programmes at HSE – St. Petersburg

Double degree tracks have been created as a result of a partnership between HSE – St. Petersburg and other programmes offered by well-known foreign universities. Participants are given the opportunity to study abroad for a year at a partner university. Upon successful defence of a thesis in front of a joint commission, students receive fully fledged diplomas from two universities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most international students were unable to move to Russia and study alongside their fellow students. Some students of Comparative Politics of Eurasia Master's programme shared their experience of distant learning and detachment from culture and campus. International Relations, Energy, and a Long-Distance Relationship with Russia: A Brazilian Student's Story

Having earned degrees in International Relations and Energy, Tulio Bunder from Brazil wanted to pursue his research in Eurasian Energy Geopolitics, which led him to the Master's programme in Comparative Politics of Eurasia. Though based in another BRICS country, he decided to study in Russia—and despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and his long-distance relationship with Saint Petersburg and HSE University, he seems happy with his choice.
