Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is dedicated to curatorial work in the field of cultural programs and creative industries, primarily in connection with museum work. The students will get acquainted with the basics of museum curatorial and expositional work, as well as with examples of curatorial activities in related fields (collections, exhibitions, publishing and PR projects, etc.). The course tells about the features, collection, storage, study, display, the basics of cataloging objects in museums and / or private collections; about accompanying materials and documentation; about the productization of the results of academic research, the features of the popularization of the results of research programs and academic knowledge.

    During seminars and at home the students perform different assignments. They may be done individually, in pairs, or in groups, depending on the requirements of the instructor for each particular assignment. The assignments correspond with one of the topics of the course and are aimed at improving students’ soft or hard skills. The types of assignments may be the following: case studies, problem-solving exercises, presentation on a particular topic, critical analysis of a scientific article, etc.
  • non-blocking Curatorial project
    The students develop the concept of a curatorial project with accordance to the guidelines given by the instructor. The form of the presentation of results is a written report submitted to the instructor by the deadline.
