Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course provides a general introduction to the fields of law relevant to Arts, Culture, and Creative Industries (ACCI). It aims to place the law in the context of ACCI and outline the related legal objectives. The focus is on the concept of intellectual property, its legislation, and underlying principles. The course also offers a brief overview of the Russian legal system, fundamentals of contract law, and the main aspects of governance in ACCI. These include various types of cooperation between legal entities, as well as exhibition activities and the use of AI in cultural activities. Students will become familiar with appropriate legal principles, terminology, and concepts, which will be especially useful for those intending to pursue a career in ACCI.

  • Recognize and manage legal aspects of ACCI projects, including contracts, licensing, and IP protection.
  • Understand and apply special museum rights and fair use principles for reproducing cultural objects in Arts, Culture, and Creative Industries (ACCI).
  • Analyse legal issues related to ACCI, including international aspects and AI implications
  • Assess issues of copyright, authorship, and moral rights in projects involving AI-assisted creativity.

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Activity in class
    A student's conscious and proactive contribution to group discussions during seminars. This activity is expressed through asking questions, providing well-reasoned answers, and contributing to the discussion, demonstrating understanding of the topic and critical thinking.
  • non-blocking Homework
    Independent student work aimed at in-depth study of theoretical material and the development of practical skills in applying legal norms to real-life situations in the creative sector. Students complete the work outside of in-person classes, present it in seminars, or submit it to the instructor for review outside of seminars.
  • non-blocking Exam
    It is a written test with multiple-choice and open-ended questions, taken offline in the classroom. The test contains 25 questions. It focuses on the material discussed in class. To prepare for it, students should attend lectures and seminars and be acquainted with all course materials.
