The report prepared by the Satellite Laboratory of HSE University St. Petersburg - UTM Malaysia explores the dynamic landscape of the social entrepreneurship sector in Russia, highlighting its vibrant interplay between social awareness and entrepreneurial rigor. This introduction sets the stage for an in-depth analysis of how social enterprises integrate social objectives with business methodologies, reflecting the complexities and potential within the Russian context.

On November 29, the campus hosted the Expert Day of the HSE University-St Petersburg and University of Technology Malaysia mirror laboratory. The official partner of the event was the Our Future foundation.

Magdalena Gaete, the head of the Project-Based Learning Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education at HSE University — St. Petersburg, won the Best Case in Social Entrepreneurship award at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). She presented a study on the transformation of elderly care in Russia, conducted within the framework of the Satellite mirror laboratory of HSE University — St. Petersburg and UTM. The award was presented by Tan Sri Azman Hashim, a reputable banking magnate in Malaysia, and Prof Dr. Rosmini Omar, Dean of Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), UTM.

The head of ACT LAB, Haliana Khalid, conducted a master class on writing teaching cases and teaching notes on entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. The event attracted educators, researchers, and students interested in social entrepreneurship, and contributed to strengthening scientific cooperation between Russia and Malaysia.

HSE University-St Petersburg and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have opened a mirror laboratory in the sphere of social entrepreneurship. The opening ceremony of the Russian part of this laboratory took place in the framework of the International Partners' Days which gathered delegations from 23 foreign universities.

From next year, students of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics' will be able to develop their skills of project activities in a specialised seminar and in the course of projects based on the method of 'project service learning'. Magdalena Gaete, a head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education (RepLab), will deliver the project seminar and coordinate projects. We talked to Prof Gaete about what students should expect from the programme and why participation in projects is useful.

The participants discussed implementing the ESG agenda within the learning process of the university, project learning possibilities, intellectual volunteering, and communication strategies. Moscow and Saint Petersburg campuses, in collaboration with the Agency for Social Investment and Innovation, presented the “Tell the World” project.
