Satellite Laboratory for Social Entrepreneurship HSE SPB - UTM Malaysia

Reflecting Impact: The Cross-Country Analysis for Social Entrepreneurship in Malaysia, Russia and Mexico

Welcome to this Satellite Laboratory, a pioneering and innovative initiative dedicated to the comprehensive analysis of social entrepreneurship across various regions. In 2023, we initiated our research in Russia and Malaysia; in October 2024, we expanded this to include Mexico. Since May 2025, new partners from Indonesia, Brazil, and Colombia have joined us, and the Consortium now includes seven universities from six countries. Together, we study and analyze the impact of social enterprises in these countries, providing valuable insights for decision-making, fostering transnational cooperation, and contributing to the development of inclusive and sustainable forms of entrepreneurship.

International Expert Day: Social Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies
Saint Petersburg, May 2025
  • 2025

The Manifesto of the Consortium for Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development was signed on May 21, 2025, during the International Partners’ Week of HSE University Saint Petersburg by representatives of six universities: HSE University — Saint Petersburg (Russia), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara Campus (Mexico), State University of Campinas (Brazil), São Paulo State University (Brazil), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (Indonesia), and Universidad de La Sabana (Colombia).

  • Since 2024, Universidad Panamericana (Guadalajara, Mexico) has joined the collaboration. We aim to study social entrepreneurship in Mexico and Russia, as well as in the fastest-growing countries, to understand how people from diverse backgrounds can find innovative solutions to shared social challenges. This analysis will examine how social enterprises in both countries contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, the political environments in Russia and Mexico will be analyzed and compared to identify best practices and gaps in the support of social entrepreneurs.
