Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course introduces modern methods of the project organization and execution and teaches students the basics of traditional and new Agile project management techniques emerging from the industry practice and research works. The first part of the course is devoted to the study of the traditional, plan-driven project management, its tools, templates, and processes. The second part focuses on Agile methods in the conditions of uncertainty. Each part contains the formulation of the basic concepts and principles as well as the material necessary to acquire practical skills how to use modern project management techniques. Several topics included in the course are of a broader nature than project management and will be useful in other domains.

  • Studying the theoretical foundations of plan-driven and agile project management, its basic concepts, principles and methods. Obtaining practical project management skills in predictable environment and circumstances of significant uncertainty. Familiarizing with the ways of scaling project activities.

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Control questions at seminars
    All students of the group are divided into project teams consisting of no more than 6 people. The project teams have the same composition throughout the course. Teams complete tasks in the interval before each seminar (project increment) and present the results of the work in the interval during the seminar.
  • non-blocking The team's answers to the discussion questions
  • non-blocking Student's participation in the educational project
    The teams complete project tasks in the interval between seminars (project increment) and present the results of the work during the next seminar (5 increments in total).
  • non-blocking Exam
    Written examination with three questions. Time for the answer is 30 minutes
