Students of MP “Finance” won the CFA Russia Challenge national economic competition

The School of Economics and Management team won the CFA Russia Challenge, a nation-wide student competition on investment analysis of companies. The team's mentor, Vladislav Afanasiev, graduated from MP “Finance” in 2020. The students were tasked with carrying out Equity Research - a company analysis on the basis of which investors make strategic decisions about forming an investment portfolio.

For more than 10 years the best Russian students have participated in the Equity Research competition organised by CFA Russia. Participation in the competition gives students the opportunity to learn from leading industry experts and compete against their peers from top Russian universities. The teams' task is to write a financial report and make a presentation of a public company.

The team consisted of five SEM students, including Mark Shumilov, a first-year student of MP “Finance”.

Equity Research consists of several components: an overview of the company, market and competitors, business assessment, financial analysis, corporate governance, level of environmental protection, and the company's social mission. In 2023, students carried out an analysis of one of Russia's largest developers GC Samolet.

The competition consisted of two stages: during the first the jury assessed a written report and a ten-minute oral presentation during the second stage.
