Data Analytics for Politics and Society

The Programme is open for technical university graduates, who would like to study social and political issues, and also for social and humanitarian graduates, who would like to dive deeper into programming and data analysis.

The programme has a flexible curriculum, which allows students to fill the gaps in their previous education and master new skills.

The programme is a research master’s programme with a strong project and analytical work and publications preparation. The programme is taught in Russian and partially in English.

Cooperation with European universities

The Programme is designed under collaboration with similar programmes in Europe, which have been opened in Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the UK, and Switzerland for the past few years.

Internship in digital sphere

Our students will be able to do their internships in scientific laboratories of HSE campus in Saint Petersburg and partner organisations of the digital sphere.

Student exchange opportunity

Students will be required to complete term papers and theses (dissertations) according to international journals and conferences standards in computer sciences. It will be a valuable element of your portfolio when applying for a job or postgraduate school.

The courses and projects will allow the students to specialise in different aspects of data analysis and digital social research – from open government data analysis to agent-based modelling of political and social processes.

The successful cooperation of the campus with JetBrains, Yandex, Rostelecom, Tele2 and other digital economy companies, and the students' internships in these companies will prepare the graduates of the programme to work in a wide array of IT-based companies. The cooperation of the campus with the regional government authorities will allow the graduates to do internships in the relevant committees and think tanks, and prepare them for work in the public sector.

Also, the knowledge obtained at the research centres is a great stepping stone to PhD programmes and postgraduate doctorate studies.

Pathway 1: International Admissions:

International Admission provides opportunity for any international applicant to enrol to a self-funded place and to compete for the discounts or even free tuition.

Applications are accepted online through the Applicant's Personal Account only.

Pathway 2: Competitions / Olympiads:

Foreign nationals can secure a place at our graduate programmes through participation in HSE and international competitions. Learn more and register here.

Pathway 3: General admission (limited eligibility):

Certain categories of international applicants are eligible to apply for a state-funded (free of fees) place or for a self-funded place at our programmes along with Russian applicants.

Please note: within the general admission, international applicants will compete with Russian applicants.
