This year, HSE University-St Petersburg's traditional HSE SPB Day event returned in an offline format. It was held on September 11 in the Sevkabel Port creative space. Students, lecturers, the administration and partners of the campus met by the Gulf of Finland to celebrate the brightest holiday of the autumn, which symbolised the beginning of the academic year and an initiation ceremony for first-year students.

On August 29, in the building on Kantemirovskaya street, there was the meeting with international students of Bachelor's and Master's programmes. The event welcomed 60 English- and Russian-speaking students. During the meeting, they got to know each other, explored all the corners of the building, and learnt about the peculiarities of studying at HSE University. Under an agreement between HSE University-St Petersburg and the University of Trento (UniTrento), students of the Master’s programme 'Modern Social Analysis' can participate in a double degree track. Cecilia Brazioli, from Italy, is a participant of the track who shared her impressions of studying in Russia.
After a long break, HSE-St Petersburg has hosted Cultures Day—an event that unites cultures from all over the world under the same roof. Visitors could forget about deadlines for a day and instead focus on films, friendly conversations, dancing and tasty treats.
The traditional international Saint Petersburg HSE Summer School will take place from July 18 to August 12, offering courses in Russian language and history, business and management, and data science. The Summer School is a chance for both Russian and international students to gain new knowledge and ECTS credits while immersing themselves in the summer atmosphere of St Petersburg. The classes will be held in English in a hybrid format. In this article, our editorial board has highlighted the main features of this year’s programme.
A delegation headed by Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of HSE University-St Petersburg, has visited the leading universities of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the working visit, agreements were reached on broad educational and scientific international cooperation in a number of areas. The first step towards formalising the partnership was cooperation within a consortium and the Centre for Russian Education, which was launched on April 28 at Samarkand State University. The next face-to-face meeting between the parties will take place in June during HSE Partner Week in Moscow.
Double degree tracks have been created as a result of a partnership between HSE – St. Petersburg and other programmes offered by well-known foreign universities. Participants are given the opportunity to study abroad for a year at a partner university. Upon successful defence of a thesis in front of a joint commission, students receive fully fledged diplomas from two universities.
On the 14th of November, HSE – St Petersburg students visited one of the pearls of Northwest Russia – a small, still instantly picturesque medieval town called Vyborg. Together with the Erasmus Students Network (ESN) team we travelled hundreds of years back in time, saw a real European knight’s castle (yeah, the one with granite walls, a tower, and not built for tourists!), a market square, a town hall, walked narrow cobblestone streets, explored hiking routes and enjoyed a romantic moonlight stroll in the famous English garden Mon Repos.
In the first weeks of October, HSE international students embarked on two exciting adventures. We gathered together on a boat tour along the picturesque St Petersburg’s canals and made a day trip to explore the medieval architecture of Veliky Novgorod. Here’s a quick recap of the outings.
This September, 16 German students spent three weeks exploring the political and cultural space of St. Petersburg during the Summer School ‘The Topography of Imperial Power’ organized by the HSE Department of History in cooperation with the Department of the History of Eastern Europe (Georg-August University of Göttingen).
