Research
The Department of History was created in 2012. The overarching goal of the department is systematic development of the field of global, comparative, and transnational history as a potent tool of overcoming the limitations of national history canon, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of social sciences and humanities, and brining new public relevance to historical knowledge. The department mission includes the development of new type of historical undergraduate and graduate education in Russia and pioneering new research fields in Russian historiography in dialogue with the global historical profession.

On October 11, Professor Dominic Lieven delivered a public lecture at the HSE St Petersburg. Lecture was titled “Reflections on empire, Russia and historical comparison” and was organized by the Center for Historical Research.
On 5th of October in frames of the “Boundaries of history” research seminar Andrey Golovnev, ethnographer, documentary filmmaker and director of Kunstkamera delivered a lecture titled “Anthropology of motion and the phenomenon of colonization”.
On Thursday, September 28, the regular research seminar "Boundaries of History" was held. Frank Grüner presented his paper titled "Entangled Histories: The Russian Revolutions of 1905 and 1917 in Harbin and the CER Zone"
On September, 20 the Higher School of Economics welcomed with open arms Masters and PhD students from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and University of Regensburg for a joint programme looking at Change in an Interdisciplinary Perspective.
The book by the Associate Professor E.A. Khvalkov "The Colonies of Genoa in the Black Sea Region: Evolution and Transformation" was published (Routledge).
