Course Syllabus

Abstract

The goal of the course is to explain the evolution, core principles and governance structure of APEC, and to assess its institutional impact on the regional business environment. Help students to use APEC Trade and Investment Liberalization and Facilitation (TILF) rules, tariff concession database and RTA/FTA preferential rules of origin to design market access and supply chain optimization plans for enterprises. Help students Identify and quantify the dividends of the digital economy, sustainable finance, and green supply chain policies of the 21 APEC member countries, and formulate a business plan that can be implemented. Help students understand APEC Business travel Card (ABTC), PPWE, SMEWG, PPSTI and other platforms to obtain funds, talents and market resources, and shorten the landing cycle of cross-border projects. Simulate the APEC High-level Officials' Meeting (SOM) and CEO Summit, complete trade negotiations on behalf of different economies.

Assessment Elements

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Student activities in class
    Student should present on the seminars and took part in the group and individual activities. Answer the question of the professor according to the studied material.
  • non-blocking In class presentation
    Student should work in group of 2 or 3, develop a presentation in the topic that will be identified in class, present it in class on schedule.
  • non-blocking Final evaluation
    Student should write a study report on one APEC economy of their choosing. The study report should include the economy’s economic, geographic, cultural situation, analysis of business environment, policies, corruption level etc.. The study report should not be less than 5 pages, and should be submitted before the announced deadline.
