The Higher School of Economics Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History of the Center for Historical Research in St. Petersburg, Russia, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of environmental and technological history. We are particularly interested in applications on either of these aspects: history of natural resources, including history of scientific expertise; history of technological innovations and urban mobility; industrial and natural heritage. The application can focus on the crossroads of all three themes. We invite scholars with a strong record who employ interdisciplinary approaches and are capable of publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals.
The Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History of the Center for Historical Research and the International Master Program in Applied and Interdisciplinary History conducts the open seminar, dedicated to the conservation and representation of maritime heritage.

On 3 April 2019 at 5 p.m. Leena Enbom, a doctoral candidate of the University of Helsinki gave a talk "What did casual labourers do? Transformation of the unskilled job market in Helsinki, 1890-1980" at the seminar of the Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History.
A regular seminar of Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History of the Center for Historical Research was held on 13 of March, 5 pm, at the address Griboyedov Canal 123, room 213.
The edited volume "Environmentalism under Authoritarian Regimes. Myth, Propaganda, Reality" was co-edited by Stephen Brain (Mississippi State University, USA) and Viktor Pál (HSE) and published in November 2018 by Routledge Publisher.
An open public lecture in honor of the 20th anniversary of the HSE - St. Petersburg of Alexandre de Vogüé, co-owner of the Château de Vaux le Vicomte, the largest privately owned “historic monument” in France and one of the most visited attractions in the vicinity of Paris.
On the evening of December 4, Alexandre de Vogue delivered a talk on how to present and maintain heritage in the Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte, which focused on matters of presenatation and preservation and issues of attracting more people being within the private sector and out of the state support.
December 5, senior researchers A.V. Kraykovsky and M.M. Dadykina made a report on economic history "Prices, their specifics and movement in Russia in the XVI - XVIII centuries" at a conference organized by the North-Western Central Administration of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation "Inflation History in Russia". The report was devoted to the problems of the history of prices and its state in Russia at the present stage of the development of science.
On the 19th of November, Michael North presented a public lecture in the laboratory of environmental and technological history. He shared the results of his recent study on the Baltic Sea as a borderland.
Julia Lajus, associate professor of the department of history and Head of Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History of the Center for Historical Research gave a public talk at the Helsinki University Environmental Humanities Forum in October, 30th.

On September 6-7, the Society and the Sea Conference 2018: Investinblue conference was held at the Greenwich Marine Center.
LETH participates the research network on history, technology and Europe “Tensions of Europe” actively.
Fellows of the Laboratory actively participate the activities of the international research network “Tensions of Europe” created in 1999 to support research in the history of technology and related disciplines in Europe and beyond.
22th of December there was a round table «Shipping, fisheries, and maritime identities in 15th-19th centuries: perspectives from Russia and France» in University Paris Diderot. The round table was orginized by common efforts of Irina Gouzévitch (Centre Maurice Halbwachs), Liliane Hilaire-Pérez (University Paris Diderot / EHESS) and Alexei Kraikovski (HSE SPb).
