Curators

They are the first with whom first-year students are getting acquainted. They know everything about studying process, professors and dormitories. They will give you some lifehacks, tell you where it's delicious to eat in St. Petersburg and where to walk after the studies. They will help with homework and with any life problems. They are the curators of the educational program "Sociology and Social Informatics". Here we will tell you everything about the guys who took this responsible mission.

The academic year is coming to an end, and the curators 2017-2018 are passing their responsibilities to the new curators 2018-2019.

- What can you tell about this academic year?

Polina Petrova (curator 2017-2018)

This year was very busy, guys from the 1st course are very unusual and cheerful. At the beginning of the year, I said that thanks to them, life in our corps will play in new colors and we were joking a lot that finally the glory of our educational program will thunder in all corners of Vyshka, because not to hear loud cheers and exclamations of our 1st-year students is simply impossible. And so, we win “Know our people”, then we perform perfectly on "Mister and Miss NRU HSE", taking an honorable second place with our performance. At the end of the year, guys found where to develop themselves: HSE Vocal, HSE dance club, club of table games, "What? Where? When? ", Sports sections, membership in the Student Council, in the Buddy Club. Wherever you look – there are sociologists with their shining eyes, and wishing to communicate with everybody, to be friends and to explore the world around.

Julia Morozova (curator 2017-2018)

This year was very productive. During the organization of various events for first-year students, we became very close. A lot of work was done not only by first-year students, who participated in a big number of events, but also by us, the curators. We received a huge charge of positive emotions and worked hard. It was very pleasant to work in such a friendly and responsive team, where both curators and first-year students became one big family. We learned to listen to each other and united.

- What can you say about the new curators?

Polina Petrova (curator 2017-2018)

We selected good and reliable guys, who are waiting for a lot of trials and tests. But why are we confident for them and for other curators from other educational programs? Probably because global efforts finally managed to prevent the kind of confrontation and misunderstanding between departments caused, first and foremost, by the scatter of Vyshka’s buildings in the city. After the school of curators, vyezd, where new curators were challenged and got acquainted with other curators, they arrived happy and said: "Finally, everyone shout in unison, that Vyshka is a family, not giving off any faculty ". We had a long way to this unity and we hope that this unity will continue and will be passed on to the new generation.

Julia Morozova (curator 2017-2018)

I think that the new curators are wonderful guys. The selection process was big and complex, there were a lot of applicants, but we chose the best of the best, most responsible students who will be able to become an example for future 1st-year students, in whom they will see the most active and positive guys able to cope with any situations and find the best solutions. They will show how student’s life is organized both within the walls of our university and outside them.

Only 9 students were able to pass a serious selection process, consisting of the Unified Curator Exam and personal interview. So, curators 2018-2019 are: Alena Korytova, Alexey Artiushin, Anna Vasekhina, Alexander Vilkhovenko, Adelina Akhmedova, Daria Maltseva, Anastasia Arefyeva, Anastasia Vlasenko, Maria Pronyuk.

- Why did you decide to become a curator?

Alexey Artyushin (curator 2018-2019)

I always knew that the curatorship is a huge platform of interesting, talented, different guys who are charged and motivated, which affected my decision to apply. Therefore, I can say with certainty that the key factor, due to which I wanted to become a curator, was people. Curatorship opens new horizons for the development as an individual, helps to train organizational and oratorical abilities, teaches to be responsible and organized. And, in my opinion, the most important thing is that the curatorship gives a lot of various emotions.

Adelina Akhmedova (curator 2018-2019)

I decided that I want to become a curator last summer when I was asking my curators about Sociology at the Higher School of Economics. I thought how cool, when you are so useful, you help 1st-year students. It is generally important - to give the correct first impression, in general, to adapt “the toddler”, to tell what, where, how, so that he or she does not get confused. As if they are still “lost” after school, that is a difficult period.

Alexander Vilkhovenko (curator 2018-2019)

I wanted to become a curator, because, firstly, this is an excellent occasion to learn to plan your time better, and secondly, it is an excellent opportunity to improve your skills in organizing more or less serious events.

Daria Maltseva (curator 2018-2019)

I wanted to become a curator, because I became interested in it even before I entered Vyshka. I found our curators in Vkontakte and started asking a lot of questions concerning applying, residing etc. This helped me very much in the adaptation, since I came from another city, I was in St. Petersburg only once, but I did not know anything about the internal features of the HSE. Curators helped me with all this, and then I thought: "I also want to help others, I can and will."

Anna Vasekhina (curator 2018-2019)

The desire to become a curator for future 1st-year students appeared immediately at the August meeting. When you see in front of you examples of people in your own curators, charging with bright emotions, helping to open and communicate with other people, it is impossible not to want to become the same person for someone.

- What are your plans for the next year? Are you going to make any changes?

Anna Vasekhina (curator 2018-2019)

Our team has some plans for the next academic year, but they are rather concerned not with radical changes, but with improvements of what the elders gave us. In some cases, it will be difficult to at least keep the bar at the same level (this year, our educational program has greatly shown itself in many competitions, and many students still remember the vyezd). But we believe that we will do everything the same, and maybe even better.

Alexander Vilkhovenko (curator of 2018-2019)

We are thinking about this, but in the plans so far - not to repeat exactly the same things after the previous generation of curators.

Adelina Akhmedova (curator 2018-2019)

Perhaps, to take it easier. All these spooky quests and tough tests remind Fort Boyard. But at the same time to be even more attentive and empathetic to first-year students - although I do not know if it is possible to be even more attentive than our curators were towards us.

Alexey Artyushin (curator 2018-2019)

Sometimes, as a 1st-year student, I felt the separation between the faculties, as if Vyshka was divided into three parts. Therefore, I really want this year to erode all boundaries between students of different faculties and directions, different interests and opinions.

- What do you expect from being a curator?

Daria Maltseva (curator 2018-2019)

I do not want to base expectations for next year, but I'm sure that we will have excellent first-year students. I know that this year we raised our program and our corps in the eyes of others to the level of "Wow, there are great guys who know how to rap, and there are dogs", so all our actions will be aimed at maintaining and enhancing our status.

Alexey Artyushin (curator 2018-2019)

From the coming year I'm waiting for emotions. It b hasn’t been a while since the announcement of the curators' lists, but I'm already overjoyed, because for a short period of time I managed to get to know a lot of guys, get to know them better, and with some of them even to work in the team during the vyezd. Therefore, I can say for sure that I'm waiting for unforgettable, warm, emotional moments, as well as, probably, for some changes in myself.

Anna Vasekhina (curator 2018-2019)

Personally, I hope that the next stream will be just as charged and ready to create, communicate, be friends and overcome difficulties together as we did. We will do our best to direct them in this way, in return, we only wait for their interest and shining eyes. I want to make sure that the life of first-year students is associated not only with endless deadlines and four exam sessions a year, but also with active extracurricular life and making friends and acquaintances.

- What can you say about the curators’ vyezd?

Anna Vasekhina (curator 2018-2019)

It can certainly be written down in the list of the best events for this academic year. You seem to be covered by a wave of love for your university for giving such an opportunity. There it was possible to get acquainted with a lot of people from other educational programs, which can not be done in ordinary life, since sociologists study in a separate building. Especially I liked working in a mixed team, where practically everyone saw each other for the first time, but quickly got in touch and easily coped with the tasks set by the curators. It is also worth highlighting a special atmosphere of mutual support, appearing shouts of "Vyshka – is family" and joint jokes. In general, it really was powerful.

Alexey Artyushin (curator 2018-2019)

It was just AMAZING! Right now I have goose bumps on my body, since this trip left a lot of warm memories. It was a huge, friendly meeting, I'm not afraid of this word, family. No graduations to faculties and EP, we are all one big family. It was nice to see and hear how all Educational Programs supported each other, shouted the slogans of other teams and sincerely rejoiced at all that was happening. We hugged, sang, danced, laughed and even cried. Therefore, it, without any doubt, took a separate place in my heart.
