Student’s organization called Russian Hackers opened the branch in St. Petersburg. 3rd year students of Sociology Anya Bataeva and Olya Silyutina became representatives of the Russian Hackers in St. Petersburg. In early March, they held the first presentation, where they talked about what the organization is doing; they also destroyed the myth of the complexity of participation in the Hackathon and shared their experience.

In the summer 2017, students from the Moscow campus have created an organization that would bring together community of hacketters in the Higher School of Economics. Sasha Naumov, the founder of Russian Hackers, tells about his project: "When we first started, we focused mainly on the HSE audience and were called HSE Hackers, but after a while many people joined us and the geography was no longer limited to our university or Moscow! We realized that we are much more and we can create the first community of Russian-speaking hacketters. "The organization has a VKontakte group" Russian Hackers" (https://vk.com/russian_hackers) and Telegram channel" Hackathons Announces "(https://t.me/Hackathons_Announces), which already has more than 2,000 participants from all over Russia and a number of European countries.

First of all, Russian Hackers help you find like-minded people and build your team. Plus, this is an opportunity to follow all announcements of the hackathon events in Russia and in the world. The VKontakte group tells about the features of the hackathon, where it passes and also indicates the prizes. It is very important that the organization helps to return money for trips to hackathons: either through the university (the Moscow campus already provides such opportunity) or it helps to contact the organizers themselves. At the moment, Russian Hackers is the most convenient platform for those who are interested in hackathons and want to participate in it.

Having extensive experience in hackathon format, Russian Hackers conduct their own events with the support of MLH (Major League Hacking), the largest league of hackathons in the world. The first hackaton was held in December 2017 in Moscow. There were about 200 participants, among 11 sponsors there were such companies as 1C, Sibur, Interfax, Avito, Thomson Reuters, Yandex and even representatives of the Museum of Fine Arts named after Pushkin. Now the guys are preparing an international hackathon «Hack.Moscow», which will be held April 20-22 in Moscow.

Now St. Petersburg representatives of Russian Hackers actively disseminate information about the organization. In early March, the first meeting took place, which was attended by students not only from the Higher School of Economics, but also from ITMO and LETI. Anya Bataeva and Olya Silyutina shared their experience of participating in the hackathon, information about open courses and lectures in St. Petersburg. Also, they told about success strategies, which you need to know in advance, to teach people not to waste time and organize work on the hackathon properly.

"There can be a lot of benefits from participating in hackathons: you can get a job, find future partners, start your start-up, connect to people who already have experience. The organization that conducts the hackathon can notice you - for the winners an internship on a similar hackathon task is offered. Here you can find like-minded people with whom you can later communicate. On foreign hackathon we can find people from other countries, team up and ride hackathons around the world. A big plus is the use of new technologies. When you come to the hackathon, you do not have a choice - you have to do something in the allotted time, and perhaps you will not have enough knowledge, so you'll have to learn quickly a new library on the Python or program for creating a small app. Another bonus is that the organizers provide data that can be used later. Finding interesting data is not such a trivial task.

You haven’t got motivation every day, but on hackathon it appears. You need to participate in such things, because it is very useful, very motivating and gives a lot of experience. And it is most important do not forget the charge from the laptop and a good mood! "- shares Olya.

In early April, Russian Hackers will hold a seminar where participants will be able to discuss past hackathons and share their success or analyze their experience of defeats. This meeting will be useful and interesting to everyone who is interested in hackathons, follow the announcements!
