Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course covers a broad range of social psychology topics from both theoretical and applied perspectives. The course would be focused on classical social psychology issues such as social influence, social groups, interpersonal relationships and communications. It would also include several notable applications of social psychology to such issues as judgment and decision making, health and illness and internet communications. The current state of the art and emerging initiatives in modern social psychology, including the open science movement would be discussed in detail.

  • Apply social psychology theories to understand different social problems on group, organization and society level
  • Explain specific theories of social psychology and use that theory to interpret and predict behavior in specific social situations.
  • Know and ready to use the effective communication strategies on interpersonal and group level
  • Know basic principles of social psychological interventions development on the group and community levels
  • Review and evaluate published works, their strengths and limitations at a basic level
  • Able, at a basic level, select and evaluate existing research articles according to their their scientific merit, credibility and usefulness
  • Able to draw up a plan of work during the course to obtain the desired grade according to the provided assignments
  • Draws on relevant classical theories and interventions from classical social psychology, depending on the task at hand.
  • Applies information of the structure of knowledge in social psychology to complete course assignments
  • The student can determine which of the classical theories can be relied upon depending on the task
  • The student is able to apply knowledge about the concept of "self" as an object of study in his research practice
  • The student is able to determine the contribution of participants` social perception properties to the observed social phenomenon
  • The student could apply the basic principles of developing social and psychological interventions at the group and community level.
  • The student is able to apply knowledge of social influence factors to construct experiments and in everyday communication
  • The student is able to apply effective communication strategies at the interpersonal and group level.
  • The student forms the experimental design of his research taking into account the criteria of scientific knowledge and replicability
  • The student is able to choose the direction of his research in accordance with current relevant areas of scientific interest.
  • The student creates an working design for a multi-level socio-psychological experiment
  • The student is able to determine which interdisciplinary methods will be relevant to his experiment
  • The student is able to apply any AI tools both in research and in practical activities
  • The student applies various coping strategies (interventions) in interpersonal communication
