Vyshka is Skating

Today, 16th February 2019, many HSE students will participate in the “ICE - Vyshka”. It is an annual event with night skating, music and wonderful impressions. On the eve of the ICE-Vyshka’19 we’ve decided to recall how it was last year. Here is the report about the ICE – Vyshka – 2018 from one of its participants, Alisa Shuginova

On the 9th of February 2018 the students’ organization HSE-SDS (“Students for Students”) organized a tremendous event: nightlong ice-skating. It is not the first time the “ICE – Vyshka” is organized, but it is getting better every year. By the way, a student from the BA program “Political Science and World Politics”, Ivan Burkov, was among the leaders of the event, being the radio host.

This year the “ICE-Vyshka” has changed its location from the Vasilievsky island to the “Sportivnaya” station. It is much more convenient for students, as they don’t need to wander searching for a metro station, risking of getting cold or lost. ‘

The entrance was open exactly at 11 pm. Those who came earlier could get warm inside, whilst last year they had to wait on the street. There is also a lifehack for students: come in time, so you will have a chance to get to the ice-rink without huge queues and other problems. Every year the event is becoming more popular and hence attracting more visitors.

Another pleasant innovation of this year was the two different ice-rinks with specific music zones, for each student created their own playlists. I was so excited to hear two favorite songs of mine! The first area was accompanied by the modern hits, while the second one – by the retro – music. Moreover, students were demonstrating their breathtaking performances, participating in contests and sharing their positive emotions with each other.

The event lasted for five hours, that is why many students had brought various yummies and drinks, although they could also have a snack in the café. It was impossible to count how much coffee was drunk that night, and hopefully nobody had to go to the university the next morning.

In spite of all positive moments, I have to say the number of political science students is decreasing every year. Some claim they cannot skate, others that they need to rest after a busy week. As for me, the “ICE Vyshka” is something that unites different HSE students into one big family. All these funny photos, new acquaintances and friends - all of that makes you an indispensable part of the large students’ community. I thank the SDS – organization for such a wonderful winter miracle.
