Career Opportunities
Skills & Career Paths
The curriculum is designed to develop both practical and research skills, allowing our graduates to choose a career they aspire to. We consider the labour market to be flexible nowadays, so we design the curriculum the way that students may have a wide range of skills and career trajectories upon graduation.
While the core courses in political science and world politics provide the students with general understanding of how politics and international relations work, the other courses help them to master specific skills to boost their career.
First, there are courses that develop critical and analytical thinking, as well as decision-making skills. Our students can perform policy analysis, collect and interpret the data for better decision-making. They have necessary skills in project management and organizational communication. This allows our alumni to work in the area of governance and management, both for governments and private companies.
Secondly, we have a lot of courses that teach research and data analysis skills. Students can design a research project in the field of social sciences and conduct it using a variety of techniques: qualitative, quantitative and configurational. Our graduates are proficient in statistics and data analysis and familiar with various software packages, including R. This allows our students to work in the field of data analysis or continue their education in the best MA programmes in Europe and Russia.
Thirdly, our students have advanced writing skills, enabling them to become political journalists and experts.
Our Graduates' Career Paths
Our graduates typically continue their studies upon graduation, and enroll in various prestigious MA programmes, both in political science and international relations, and in a number of adjacent academic areas. The knowledge and skills provided within the BA programme suffice for an informed and unrestricted choice of future career, but they also allow for shaping an ongoing educational trajectory even in new fields of study.
Among the universities our graduates choose for their MA studies are the University of Tartu (Estonia), the Radbound University (the Netherlands), the University of Glasgow and Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. In Russia these include the European University in St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg State University, HSE Unviersity in Moscow, Moscow State University and others.
Upon the completion of the MA studies, some of our graduates decide to pursue academic careers, enrolling in PhD programmes.
Some of our students start working right after graduation. They get positions in a variety of organizations: public authorities of St. Petersburg and other regions, NGOs, private companies. Some of them engage in political journalism.
